VW's "clean" diesel?

I remember seeing an episode of top gear in which Porsche claimed that gasses leaving the 9xx turbo are cleaner than when they entered the car. When I mentioned this to my engineering and environmental sciences coworkers they called bs immdiately, this was over 6 years ago. I have to wonder given recent announcements of the porche turbos used the emissions cheat sw as well.

What a minute Ronnie. You are citing Top Gear. Think about it. The entire show is based on sensationalist "facts" which are are really more opinions of the hosts than true facts.

But I believe that Jeremy was talking about the air in downtown London, and he may have been right depending on the day.

@JetPowered , point taken my coworkers made the same pint by the way. At the end of the day glad I don't own any vw or porche vehicles, gas or diesel.

I see one big problem with my 2.0 TDI VW engine: I don't have it in my boat!

Wouldn't that be totally awesome?

I bought a 2015 vw Passat in March and absolutely love it. I bought it for my 100 mile commute each day. You can't beat the 700+ miles to the tank at 75 mph for 80% of the drive.

I love the car, but this is bullshit. I know I am going to get screwed on performance or mpg once the "fix" is applied. Hell, I did a blue book look up on my car today and it lost 40% of its value thus far...that seemed steep to me.

I work for a lawfirm, and we have filed a class action suit regarding this, but honestly, I don't know what is going to happen.

Yeah....this really is crazy....still hopefull my Q7 isn't involved....but fully expect that won't last.....

Julian, the Q7 is involved.

Technically the Q7 was not directly fingered as being a culprit. The answer is that until VAG responds properly to the EPA statements, we don't really know what's going on. But since Porsche has "voluntarily" stopped sale of new Cayenne's with the same 3.0L V6 TDI as the Q7 and Touareg, there is no way on god green earth that the Q7 TDI will remain unscathed.

Oh, and by the way, I own a Touareg V10 TDI. My engine was a known gross polluter at purchase, so it's safe.

Those diesel v10's are awesome! That explains why they quit producing them. Do you tow the boat with it?

The plot thickens:

VW emissions issue extends to additional 75,000 vehicles

By David Shepardson

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Volkswagen AG (VOWG_p.DE) has told U.S. regulators that emissions issues in larger luxury cars and SUVs extend to an additional 75,000 vehicles dating back to 2009, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said on Friday.

The disclosure widened the VW scandal, which had previously focused mainly on smaller-engined, mass-market cars, and raised the possibility that engineers at both the Audi and VW brands could have been involved in separate emissions schemes."

Etc. Still waiting to see which other automakers have been acting similarly.

Wonder if I can negotiate a sweet deal for a newer model year gas Q7? Sigh......I love the mileage and power of my diesel....nothing like 600 miles on a fill up (city) and 750 highway. Towing the boat home the other day I got 15.9mpg! SWEET...... but this is gonna hurt....

Funny, I was thinking the opposite...
What a great time to BUY a TDI VW...

@Julian do they emissions test diesel vehicles in your area? If they don't then don't worry and enjoy the benefits. They aren't tested in our area here in Texas, but I don't know how the VW group is dealing with non-testing areas. The people that I've talked to that have the TDI VW models plan to drive into the ground like there isn't a problem and enjoy the mileage benefits as usual.

Yeah....it will be interesting to see how the States handle this....my biggest concern is if they force a reprogramming and demand proof that it was done.

If that happens you'll see a plethora of aftermarket "kits" pop into the market.
