VW's "clean" diesel?

If that happens you'll see a plethora of aftermarket "kits" pop into the market.
Yeah....there are lots of people who "delete" the emmisions on their diesels already....I've read some posts of people getting into the 50+ mpg range by deleting their small diesels. The V6 doesn't gain much (3-4mpg) doing a delete....

Yeah, but it gains a whole lot of fun :) We've done a few, and expect to do quite a bit more once all the recalls are done.

Does anyone have any new insight into the fix (how much performance/mpg loss will I have) or buyback info?

I have read all I can, but they just keep delaying everything.

Also, there is nothing I want or need to spend my $500 dealership card on. could I have the dealership order two marine batteries for me? Lol

I know the fix will be a new DPF w/ adblue injection. No clue how much it's gonna affect performance/efficiency yet.

Best I've heard is if you keep it and get it fixed, you'll get $5000. Or, you can sell back for pre-dieselgate values + 5-10% over. I've got a Golf just sitting at the bottom of the parking lot awaiting buyback. (I only bought it for that purpose - pretty good investment if it all pans out)

I can spend that dealer card for you easily ;)

Do you know if VW made any adjustments to the ECM to reduce emissions before the scandal went public? My 2013 Passat TDI dropped about 8-10 mpgs last year after I had it in for service.

There was a reflash last year - I believe it was *supposed* to make it a little less sensitive, but who knows what they coulda snuck in there.

DESCRIPTION
The vehicle's engine management software has been improved to assure your vehicle's tailpipe emissions are optimized and operating efficiently. Under certain operating conditions, the earlier strategy may have increased the chance of the vehicle's MIL light illuminating. If the MIL illuminates for any reason, your vehicle will not pass an IM emissions inspection in some regions.

I have a 15 Passat tdi, which already has an ad blue tank...is my car even fixable?

The attorney I work with told me THERE WAS NO FIX for my car...but then again, she is an atty and not a mechanic.

Evil genius. . . .

I have a 2013. I'm watching.
BTW - love that thing. But what to do?

It's my understanding that the Passat's are the easiest to fix because they already have the hardware in place.

I wish I could prove they reduced my MPG's without my approval. Can we look up what our cars were worth pre scandal?

Actually, from what I've heard, all Passats will be bought back. Don't take that as gospel though

Lots of numbers flying around today. Looks like I can sell it back in October for around $23,300. Now should I keep the maintenance up on it until then? I'm due for a 80k trans flush and oil change now. I still have $500 in VW bucks to spend.

Yeah, i was shocked when the atty came into my office to calculate it.

I am a bit confused...does loan forgiveness really mean they are going to eat the remainder of the loan plus the buyback amount plus the other payment?

If so, i am pretty happy.

I still have the dealer card as well...but i called them this week and they said they can order brakes and stuff for non vw cars...so.

Fairly certain that's not right @billyb . You'll get the buyback amount listed on the gov site today, and you'll use that to pay the loan off. That amount includes the goodwill money.

For me, that equals 17K for my golf and 12K for my sportwagen, plus potentially something for the Jetta I sold last month.

@Julian , I'm still in shock they haven't really said anything about the 3.0L's yet.

@jeremy0011 - I'll do your service for your dealer card ;)

That makes much, much more sense, but that's NOT hat the paper said. As easy as the calculation should be, I think the attorneys screwed the pooch on the form I was looking at.

Question if I decide to hold onto it for the 2 year waiting period they will give me around 20k vs 23k this October. What happens if the car is totaled during that time? Do you think insurance company's will payout the settlement value? This is the only reason Im thinking about selling it back this year.

While some additional good info in there for sure, I still see nothing about what you mention Billyb. Unless you're referring to lease termination?

I doubt insurance would pay the settlement amount.

Coming from an insurance background...and I will verify this for you...but if you totaled the car, you would be paid out current nada value for the car and that's it. You will lose about 20% of your value due to this because all of the vw diesels have dropped value since the scandle broke (which is why they are going back to sept 2015 nada numbers in the calculation).

I am with you, love the car, but it's going back asap.
