I was thinking about something like a 1x1 foot image of Medusa. There is a double meaning here.
  • This boat is so fast that it will make you feel that you are as slow as a stone ( recall Medusa turned people to stone)
  • Poseidon ( the god of the sea) had a crash on Medusa, so in her honour he will keep us safe

Bimini and The Big Game Club will be featured on George Poveromo's World Of Saltwater Fishing Episode 8 on NBC Sports Network Wednesday at 1:30 PM.

The description of the episode is "BIMINI, BAHAMAS: LIGHT TACKLE VARIETY – A mere 50 mile run from Miami’s Haulover Inlet, Bimini is an angler’s paradise. Just about every prized fish an angler dreams of swims within these waters, be it on the backcountry shallows, reefs, wrecks or offshore. When it comes to fishing in Bimini, Poveromo’s hardest decision is what to actually fish for. It’s July, and Poveromo takes Kari Pallotto aboard the MARC VI to the Bimini Big Game Club Resort (http://biggameclubbimini.com/) to try their luck. Not surprisingly, the reefs yield their typical yellowtail snapper, plus an assortment of giant blue runners, amberjack and horse eye jacks. Poveromo replaces the light fluorocarbon leader on a small Penn spinner with 30-lb test Titanium wire and a small circle hook for the Ceros; the duo hits it just right, catching a variety of fish including a Cero mackerel topping 11-pounds. The catch of the trip, however, is when Poveromo scores a huge king mackerel from an anchored boat with light spin tackle intended for yellowtail snapper. After a tedious 30 minute fight, Pallotto gaffs the big king, a whopping 55 pounds! Aside from the fishing, the ever-changing Bimini is showcased in this exciting and entertaining episode."

This is the big catch

We watched the show this evening. It covered a lot more than I expected. They started fishing for reef fish near Cat Cay where we had great success in 2016 then moved to an undocumented spot north of Bimini. The last section of the show focused on land activities in North Bimini. I would say it is worth watching even if you have no plans to fish.

It will be on again at

NBC SPORTS NETWORK:
May 17 (Wednesday) – 1:30 p.m.
June 11 (Sunday) – 9:30 a.m.

World Fishing Network
February 23 (Thursday) – 8:30 p.m.
February 24 (Friday) – 12:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m.

We also watched the show last night, pretty decent 30 minute show. My only disappointment was I wish they would have talked more about their rigs and bait they were using.

This morning I re-watched the part where they went north and can't figure why they would go 40-45 miles north of Bimini, other than they can.

I agree with @Bruce, definitely a good show to watch even if you aren't going to fish.

I watched it also. They did give the tackle information at the bottom of the screen but did not talk about it. Pretty decent show wish there was less commercials though.

Perhaps they went to Great Isaacs which is known for fishing and a 45 mile round trip. At the end of the show they listed their mileage and fuel burn. I remember the mileage being around 230 which does not seen like enough for two crossings plus a 90 mile outing.

It would have been close with a 90 mile outgoing; 100 mile round trip from Miami, 90 mile round trip north fishing, and 40 mile round trip south fishing. Still seems more like they went to great Isaac lighthouse to fish.

Ok I did not even know Great Isaac's Cay existed this is now on my list to do the next time in Bimini. @Andy S we will have to put this on the list for 2018 and maybe see if the sands will let us borrow a ladder lol.

From Wikipedia;

The most prominent feature of the island is its lighthouse, which was erected in 1859, and stands about 151 feet (46 m) tall. It has been claimed that a full moon causes unusual sounds to be heard on the small island. In the late 19th century local lore tells of a ship wreck on the island with one survivor, an infant. The child’s distraught mother, known as the Grey Lady, is said to haunt the island to this very day, wailing in sorrow during the full moon.

On August 4, 1969, the station was discovered to have been abandoned by its two keepers, who were never found.[3] Many believers in the Bermuda Triangle claim that the keepers were two more victims lost to its mysterious forces.[4] however, the hurricane record from 1969 indicates that Hurricane Anna [1], the first hurricane of 1969, on 1–2 August, passed close enough to Great Isaac Island to cause dangerous weather for the tiny rock island. By the 4th of August, the hurricane was well into the Atlantic Ocean.

The grounds are open to the public, although the lighthouse itself has had stairs removed to block access to the interior of that structure. The keepers’ house, cistern, and assorted buildings are crumbling into ruins. The derelict collection of abandoned buildings make Great Isaac Cay a popular destination for boaters

The moon will be full on July 8th. Maybe she'll still be wailing by the 11th?

Michepe69 has registered to captain Severance with a crew of 4-6 adults and 0 children. They hail from the home port of Edison, NJ.

The crew is described as: We're trailering boats and jets skis from NJ. Plan on leaving 7/10 returning 7/16. My cousin Joe-retired FF Capt with many years of boating experience-will be capt of my boat this time. I plan on riding my jet ski with another 4-6 friends. This is my 3rd time doing the trip (1st by jet ski, 2nd on my boat). My son, Joe's son and a couple of friends will also be in the boat.

You can register for the event using the form at https://jetboaters.net/forms/bimini-2017-registration.6/respond

@Michepe69, glad to have you. Have you seen the condo booking info in the second post of this thread? I would get your reservations in quickly.

Are you bringing one boat and one ski or one boat and several skis? Do you plan to cross to Bimini with the group? I am not aware of anyone else planning to return on the 16th but some are planning to return on the 18th and my family plans to return on the 20th.

Hey forum!

I just registered for the Bimini trip. Had planned the trip before hand and came here looking for unrelated info to find out that the week we chose is the one leading preference here.

We're trailering boats and jets skis from NJ, we're a group of 2-3 boats and 6-10 jet skis probably. My boat and 4 jet skis are definitely going but some people have yet to confirm. Plan on leaving at sunrise from Haulover Marina, Miami Beach on 7/10 and returning 7/16. I see Fort Lauderdale is your port of choice? Anyone leaving from Haulover/Miami area?

We're staing at the Hilton this time as the rates were much better than the Bimini Big Game's, where we have stayed the 2 previous times. My cousin Joe-retired FF Capt with many years of boating experience-will be capt of my boat this time. I plan on going riding my jet ski with another 4-6 friends.

This is my 3rd time doing the trip (1st by jet ski, 2nd on my boat). My son, Joe's son and a couple of friends will also be in the boat. While there we usually go snorkeling, ride around, hit the beaches, sand bars and go to all the local spots for dinner. We usually hit the bars and casino several times while we're in town. And you can definitely find us at Joe's Conch Shack for lunch!

I'm looking forward to my 3rd trip to this paradisiacal place, this is turning into a tradition for me and my squad and I hope it does!

@Michepe69, have a look at the first post of this thread for a description of our trip plans. You might find some of them appealing.

For example we stay at Bimini Sands who give us a nice discount. Their marina is directly connected to the ocean with a fuel dock inside the marina. By staying in the condos we have access to full kitchens and a washer / dryer. The marina has very nice floating docks that allow us to moor near our condos. Most of us will hang out at the infinity pool in the evenings.

The Resorts World Hilton does have nice docks which you will enjoy compared to Big Game Club. Do you plan to eat out for most of or all of your meals? Have you priced dockage at Resorts World? I remember the rates being very high. Having the casino local may make the food and dockage costs worthwhile to you.

Personally the desctruction that Resorts World has caused and continues to cause to Bimini are too great for my family to stay at their facilities.
