The poles have more support than this would because the straps also provide support - all the way across the center, and down to both cleats at either end, so not sure I'd want to tow with this up....but down might be ok. As for towing down, then putting it up and lowering it again....seems you'd have to be able to get back to the release point to lower it again (the ratchet release hangs under the tower....so to release you have to get into the boat...unless they have a cord you can pull to release it external to the boat...which would be smart!)

Very cool idea though!
I think I will give this a try with a DIY version, few large washers, some parachute cord and ill swing it over my tower and tie to a cleat. Bam. lol

Am I the only one who collapses my poles and leaves them in when I tow ? lol. they just dangle there, then if I need them I simply climb in and pop them back out :)

I think someone needs to talk to them to see if they would be willing to do a group buy. (I am not volunteering!) I think they could stand to make a lot of money off of our sorry asses. Probably multiple devices for a lot of us. My buddy has this on his Supreme cover and it works sweet!

I've had to crawl underneath a soaking wet cover in the pouring rain to put poles in after driving through the rain for 2 hours. It sucks! Normally, it's not that bad, but it's an extra 15 min of army crawling into the boat begore towing that I personally, will be happy to never deal with ever again.

I am confused - you put the cover on before the poles? It only takes 3-5 minutes for me to put them up - though I understand the inconvenience of crawling under them.

I always tow long hauls with the cover on (poles out) so as not to risk loosing seat cushions on the highway.

Ah makes sense. So it is better to have the poles out while trailering? (sorry still a newb)

Yes. The covers have vents and they collapse as the air gets sucked out from under them in tow (consistent with Bernoulli's principle). If you leave the poles in they create stress points where a cover will deteriorate more quickly, albeit the straps alleviate that somewhat.

I've heard both ideas to tow with the poles and without. I think without the poles my cover stretches more. With the poles in the straps also give support. On my 3rd year towing with the poles and no issues. It's about 75 miles each way to fishing launch so I've got a few miles on it. Not sure what the price is for this little device but I know those ratchet pulleys are about $5 -$10 a set online.

Edit. Ok it's $49.95 for 1 so thats kinda pricey for a large plastic washer.

I kind of disagree. If you think about initial engineering costs of modeling, prototyping (even something as simple as this), and then factor costs to run a small business and turn a small profit, I think it seems about what I would expect. I definitely wouldn't call it a bargin though (COME ON GROUP BUY!). If I factor even 5 min of time savings for as often as my cover is on and off, it's a no-brainer for me, but I am one of the pole's out guys so it is easy to justify. But hell, I just justified $500 (which is a deal) for some foam floor covering to not have to deal with drying and cleaning carpets so I guess I'll justify damn near anything to save 5-10 min.

Iboats the hangtyte is 39.99 and use ebates.com to receive another 2-5 percent off.

IDK...
The poles and straps work well so why messing with it?
BUT
With the poles/straps I need to be in the boat, have the windshield center panel down and then jump over/under the straps and windshield - good exercise, but not when I'm in a rush; so - if I could get away with not using the poles/straps, keep the windshield up and just use two of those hangtytes (and be able to reach them - when the boat is up on the lift) - that would be great, actually.

@hobineros had a great Idea, add to the release lever, "some parachute cord and ill swing it over my tower and tie to a cleat"

My boat will be on an uncovered lift next year so I will be putting poles in and out a lot. This system will make a lot of sense for me. I like the idea of paracord and maybe a danik hook to tie this off.

Can you guys post pics or links - to those parts?
I want to buy two of those setups to replace the poles. I don't think reaching those will be an issue while on the lift in the slip, but when on the trailer in could be different story (without a ladder).

Iboats has it for 39.99 Use Ebates and receive 5% cash back. https://www.ebates.com/iboats.com

I added to my Bow too.. "I took 2 Iron On" Patches and had a Seamstress cut the 2 inch hole and triple stitch the patches together just at the opening for reinforcement. The Patches were 4 dollars and the Seamstress was 5 dollars. Works great..

I have lots of good ideas. lol.

Spent the weekend putting my seadek on nice and slow. This weekend if the rain goes away I'm going to try and do that to my cover. I really dislike the poles, and now with the seadek in , I don't want the stupid round marks getting left on it .

Actually - I think its time to hit the water, been like a month :arghh: thanks to hurricanes and what not.
