You can get a work truck version of most pickups for a good price. Ask your dealer about them. They have rubber mats and roll up windows and such. The next couple of days is a great time to buy something that is on the lot and not moving. Just do not buy the same day and let them call you with the best deal. I think test drive all brands and just ask about the tow rating on the one you like. About 35k for a new truck can be had. Then wash the underneath and use salt away after any salt and it will last for a long time, you don't put many miles on. You could also put Cosmoline on it to prevent rust. With 80k on your truck you can put new brake lines on it and 3 grand of other work and put Cosmoline on that and go for 5 years with minimal investment. I had an old Chevy 3500 that I sent to the body shop for 5k and it looked great for 4 years, a new one was 65K.
I agree with everything except asking about the tow rating........

99% of sales staff I've run into don't know or understand tow ratings. Ask for the literature, so some research, and choose the options you need/want to get the desired ratings. IMO, the salesman is just there to help navigate the process, not to specify the vehicle.

I meant if you are looking at one on the lot they have left over, the tow rating is on that particular truck.

That thing is going to be popular for certain.

Personally I'm not a fan.....except for teh driving without doors part. You really can't argue with that at much of any level.

I'm IN LOVE with it. I just hope when it releases in a couple months it'll be a halfway decent price... we shall see. I have my Grand Cherokee for sale right now in preparation for this coming out. lol

This will be my next truck. I wanted to get the new JL, but I can't tow our boat with it. I will be in first in line to put in my factory order.
Yeah, I'm in the same boat (lol) I'm either getting a JK and will use my "beater" truck for towing or selling both the Grand Cherokee (my current tow vehicle) and my truck to get this one when it releases.

Does this have enough arse to yank a 24ft Yamaha around? I seem to remember reading specs of a 7,100lb tow rating on it, so it should be close to capable. I know there are some guys that tow with the Colorado/Canyon platform that has a similar tow rating and physical size of this thing.

Also, @OCMD did you ever purchase a new truck? I know you're currently chasing a college football player around the country on his winning streak, but I'm curious if you picked out a new vehicle or not yet.

Yes, the towing capacity is 7650 pounds. In comparison my 2011 Grand Cherokee w/ Hemi is 7200 and tows the boat great. The only reason I don't have a Wrangler is that it can only tow 3500 pounds (I think).

@2kwik4u not yet. I have an OTD price on this one for $36,113 which is still too high, but this is a price without showing up at the stealership. Good? Bad? Ok?

Was all set on a Ram, but talked to a few guys at the Cotton Bowl and now I am back looking at Silverado, since I have had 2 and I kept the first one for 12 years and the second one for 16. I haven't hit my connection yet for either brand, however, as I am still sort of trying to sell my 2002 Chevy at the moment. Kind of no urgency presently. My connection is the #3 guy at a major conglomeration of various dealers, and I bought a 2018 Pilot off him for 3k less than my best price elsewhere. I am figuring I can get a Ram or Chevy for 32k OTD. We shall see. Thanks for asking.

If you go new - drive both. I am confident you wouldn't even consider the Chevy at that point. Without said, do your wallet a favor and do not sit in a LongHorn or Limited...I made that mistake with no intentions of a new truck. A lot of people with "knowledge" have plenty of bad things to say about Ram... most of which was true 15 years ago. However, since becoming their own company they have really turned things around. There is a reason Ram is gaining sales while everyone else is losing sales.

Anyways, I think the tradesman deal is "ok". Not sure of your tax rate, but I would prob aim for a few thousand cheaper. I think 20% off OTD the door is the target to aim for. (Sounds about where you are at - 32k) Also I would look a truck with 3.92s just for that little boost in towing capacity (plus its a little quicker), as a $95 option, it is worth it IMO.

Not as many want a long bed with a crew cab.
This... and I don't think its a killer deal. It's a three year old (coming up on 4) truck in an older generation. Probably a decent deal that will sell eventually but nothing jaw breaking. It will prob sell for around 33k. It's a hard sell when the new '18 Laramie's are/were going for under 40.

Well I do need a long(er) bed, the 6'6 which this looks to be. I guess if it drops to 30K it might be a deal then but I'm not one for all the high end extras like a sun rook which will end up leaking. Always appreciate the input.

I've had sunroof in every vehicle I've ever owned. Been on the road a shade over 22 years now. Only one managed to let water inside the car, cleared the drain and it was fine for another year that I owned it. One of those was an '81 Mazda Rx7 that had just about every single piece of rubber rotted away. Love my sunroofs and won't have a vehicle without one. Hell it was 22deg outside this morning, and I drove in with it open!

@2kwik4u im the same, if it dont have a sunroof I prob wont buy it...something about looking up and seeing the blue sky or stars makes it appealing. It also helps with ventilation and similarly Ive never had one that leaked and ive been through dozens of vehicles.

I got my mom a lexus NX F sport, has all the bells and whistles, but she wont open the sunroof...bc she thinks it will leak, lol

Im in the market for a new truck myself, the lease on my 2016 Denali Ultimate is coming due and Im very tempted to jump to Ram...a similar 2019 Denali is gonna costs much more than I got the 2016 for bc of the lease residuals/incentives. Fwiw i had the 5.3 and it did fine, so the Hemi would be a beast fasho!

I have no idea what I wanna do....the wife is tired of her Lexus GS F sport, says its to low so contemplating a SUV for her that we can tow with.
