I’ve only read up to page 9 in the thread so far but based on that I’ve decided to go with one of these for my new to me back yard.

It will go where the tent is now. I plan to have a nice deck and steps built in front of it and a narrow walk way built above and around it.

bonus in thatI plan to move the tent over the way runners which will be stored on the far side corner of the backyard.

Not sure yet if I will have to extend the concrete pad but would like to have it centered to the walkway. I also need to pipe electricity back there and now wondering if I need a permit to install the pool.

by the way when I was in high school my best friends family owned and operated a pool supply company that I worked for so I’ve helped install and maintain many pools and spas, mostly above ground dough boy pools. That said, I recall thinking these people pay way too much for a guy like me to come out every 2 to 4 weeks to maintain / clean their pools.” The cost could go no where but up since so I will be doing all my own maintenance
They are solid pools. Easier to keep the round ones clean. I modded it this year and put in pvc lines and cut the liner and put in a square Hayward Skimmer. Works so much better. Will post pics later today.

@Ronnie

New plumbing I put ball valve's on everything. The PVC pipe that is just going vertical with nothing on it is for a small waterfall sprayer that can be turned on and off.

Amazon.com: Swimming Pool Waterfall Fountain Spray - 2 Fountain Heads Water Sprinkler, Cool & Warm Pool Spa Water Temperatures, Water Fun Pool Aerator Backyard Decor for Above & In-ground Indoor Outdoor Pools : Patio, Lawn & Garden

The one thing is that the standard fittings that come on intex are not 1.5" they are smaller. I cut them out and installed standard 1.5" thru wall fittings that way I could hook up anything that I wish since it is pretty standard.

Also upgraded to this, stuff is flying off the top of the water and so much easier to clean. But it does require a 1.5" fitting.

Amazon.com : PoolSkim Pool Skimmer and Pool Cleaner : Swimming Pool Maintenance Kits : Patio, Lawn & Garden

I also have extra parts and if you have any questions I am pretty versed in them.

I dream of the day I can buy something and not Mod it.......... Boats, Cars, Pools, Homes, smh...

So we have both, but an above ground pool. Our first above ground pool was a 27' round, used freebie. A buddy couldn't wait to offload it. We took it apart, reinstalled in my yard, new liner, and we used it for 12 years until the side finally rotted through. We used the shit outta that pool. We went one year without it, and missed it so much, we bought a new 27' round pool, just deeper. This one has 54" side walls. We wanted to go in ground, but we are selling in the next 2 years, so it wouldn't have made good sense. We built the deck, this year we planned to wrap the deck around, but lumber is outrageous still. I have a 15 and 13 yr old boys... We are in the pool about every day after work, and on weekends when we aren't on the boat. Cleaning isn't bad, we have 23,600 gallons, more than most in standard ground pools. Keep up on the water balance, get a robot vacuum, and use the cleaning as your "quiet time"!! 20210515_181457.jpg

@1BadTundra Yea we want a deck, just one corner though. My pool is 130' from the house so you gotta walk down to it. Lumber too pricey. i have the 4x4's in the back yard laying there, but the Admiral would like Trex. So yeah holding off on that expense. Just going to put in the A frame ladder and see how long I can fly under the radar with that. All this pool and fence stuff is cutting into my boating time.

Thanks. I am so down with the upgrades, I already plan to replace all the hose clamps with SS versions. The deck will have to come later, escrow closes at the end of this month but We won’t move in until mid June. I hope to be swimming by august 1st.

Hardest part is getting the ground absolutely level and I also put the legs on large blocks. If you really want a nice soft floor, I did the following:

  1. Dug down and leveled.
  2. Put Large 12" pavers on the virgin ground where the posts legs would go.
  3. Used Mason Sand to bring it up to within 1" of finished height. The key with the foam board is to use gorilla tape on both sides and 3-4 overlapping pieces on each joint. If you don't do this the weight of the water can make the seams move apart and the you will have a small trench at the bottom of your liner.
  4. Then used foam board on top of the mason sand.
  5. Breathable Tarp for under pool.
  6. Set pool on top.
You can see it sticking out in the pictures below. Makes the bottom smooth and no dents or pockets if you only used sand.

I went to this site and did all the ready and followed their recommendations. Another JB member pointed me in that direction. The website has been invaluable. Basically Pool Modders and forums. Search Intex and there is a wealth of information.

You probably want a deck big enough for a couple of lounge chairs. That way is someone is sunning, they can hop into the pool to cool off and then get back to sunning.

We had this exact pool 2 years ago when we lived in Italy, it was great! I wish I would have prepped the ground better but I did the best I could with what I had. As it fills up you will want to walk around and pull the legs out every once and a while, I hit the bottoms of them out with a 2x4 every few hours. Mine moved out probably 8-10” from where they started, so be prepared for that when you put blocks under the legs. It took 22 hours for mine to fill up with a water hose.

my pool is going to be on a concrete slab, that should be level, which is good but hard, is that bad? I could see putting some foam board down first but not thinking about sand or pavers. I will check out the website you mentioned soon.

thanks for the information. I talked to my realtor today, she confirmed that I am supposed to get a permit for the pool but told me to ask a local electrical contractor about the need for various permits.

My first lessons:

Spend the time and the money to prep the location/ground correctly.

Do NOT do what this lady did, fill the pool quickly instead of following the manufacturers instructions.

Here i had to pull a building permit and electrical permit, i did the work myself and passed all three inspections.

If you are on a concrete slab, i would recommend just the foam board.

If I ever hit the lotto I would have a pool with a lazy river around it. This is just awesome and has it all with a hot tub, lazy river and a pool!!

No the pool isn't considered a permanent structure with respect to plumbing.

The Building inspected multiple times. and Electrical twice. I don't have a heater so no Mechanical.

that is awesome.
Right?! Looks like it’s also on a lake. That would be my dream setup to have property on the lake, with beautiful grass and a killer pool setup. Best of both worlds.
