By the looks of the forums, I am one of the many many people having problems with the connext screens. My touchscreen has completely failed and I know there are other issues with them freezing, completely dying, etc. This sure seems to me to be an issue with quality and something that should be addressed by the manufacturer. I am out of warranty and there is not a chance in hell I am going to pay 10 grand for a replacement screen with technology from two decades ago. Is this something that would elevate to the level of a class action lawsuit? I hear about them being filed all the time but have no clue what is involved. Just wondering if we have any recourse from crappy manufacturing.

Did you turn off the batteries before hooking them up? does a 2017 have dsvr thingus?

My personal issue is delamination. Top half of the screen was working and then got worse and worse. I've been limping by with the joystick and praying I could find a used one somewhere. All while the price of the replacement screen went to $2000 to $10000 for some reason.

My new 12.3" Connext screen was ordered in October of 2023 (under warranty) and just came in last week - just about 15 months for delivery. I'm hoping this one lasts until I'm done with this boat - fingers crossed.

I dont know why the price has gone so high. What will be the big problem is Yamaha tends to discontinue parts very early. Roughly around the 10 to 12 year mark, so what happens then when the rest of the boat is good but the eletronics are toast

I would join the class action suit. My 2019 242 limited screen is 1/4 dead. Ive called and emailed the manufacturor of the screen to ask about a repair /replacment with no response. I read somewhere they cut ties with Yamaha. Super! Yamaha Corp had $360B value. Im pretty sure they can resolve the price gouging dealer are chargings for screens with NEW replacement SCREENS. Better yet, have the boat Engineering Team spend a whole day or two to create a Yamaha to NMEA 2000 adapter so we can use REAL elcetronics like Smirad, Garmin, Raymarine, like 100% of the rest of the boat world. YAMAHA, are you listening????

It should last at least a year and a half 😜

So I was just talking about this with the wife, and I expect the screen to go tits up before the boat has outlived its useful life. It would seem that the most vital things have workarounds, like simple gauges for battery, and somehow an analog fuel gauge seems like it's possible. If not needing maps (I wouldn't, and my screen doesn't do maps anyway), what else would be vital, and possible workarounds? Water temp and depth are wonky, depending on installation and conditions, and can be covered by an aftermarket Garmin or similar, and that could also cover Speedo.

Does the Connext output trouble codes, or can those be read before the screen with a tie-in? Seems the YDS has a port, but I don't know how it ties into the system, as I haven't had the need or tools to know this just yet.

Just a thought... for engine related data, pull it from the OBD port? I have the adapter for my laptop to pull data for my MR1's, not sure if the newer boats have the same connection point.

They do, but the software is ridiculously expensive. I can't recall the year (wanna say 2016?), but they updated something, or at least anyone selling the required system seems to make a point of saying it won't work after X year, which is my situation. Hoping the cost comes down over time, before I end up needing it, but for now, just trying to suss out what couldn't be handled by other means

Same here, but I got lucky. The "touch" just stopped working and the joystick was limited so I could not clear codes like the shallow water alarm, set up radio, etc. I was sick to my stomach when the dealer said how much they were knowing I was out of my 12 month warranty. However, I lucked out and learned Yamaha has a 3-year "component limited warranty" which although not very descriptive other than excluding components under the 12-month engine warranty (engine and pump) and the 10-year structural warranty (deck and hull) (as well as a dozen+ other exclusions) ended up including the screen. So I only paid for about $150 in labor. Fast forward and my steering cable seized. That was over 1k and they paid for that too. May will be my 3 year mark, so looks like I'll be on my own.

That said, the dealer said they often warranty under good will - so they submit claims regardless and they often approve, especially for boats under 5 years old.

Given that I have had documented issues with the screen, assuming the screen went out again, they would probably replace it.

If you are out of the 3 year mark from the original date of purchase, they most likely wont. They dont extend warranty from replacement date. Nobody does. You should count your blessings that you got it covered where most have failed. Mother Yamaha as well as dealers dont seem to want to help much
