do you tow with your mooring cover? Yesterday my wife went out for the first time. She said "You put this cover off/on every time you go to the lake?
That's stupid...lol

It's an hour and a half to the closet lake. We live in the California Delta region and there are bugs everywhere, plus a main truckers route goes through our area. Both our windshields have numerous chip. I'm not taking a chance with the boat. But that cover is a PIA doing by yourself with a bad back.

I've towed with and without my cover.

Advantages with cover:

You don't have to stow away everything, because nothing can get blown out.
The inside doesn't pick up a bunch of road dust, even when wet.
If it rains, you don't end up with nasty road grime that's difficult to clean off the cushions and rug.

Advantages without:

You don't have to take the cover on/off... which isn't much of an advantage, because I put on the cover after I've cleaned the boat anyway. And if I'm towing the boat before I've cleaned it, there's usually a bunch of wet stuff (towels, wakeboarding vests, etc.) in the boat, and it's easier to leave all that stuff in the boat and just cover the boat until I get it home to clean the stuff and the boat.

Regarding your bad back, have you seen this backsaver product? No more crawling around to position those stupid poles:

Awesome...thanks for sharing. I store my boat indoors so I really don't need to use the poles. After reading some of the posts, I don't really need them for towing either?

More progress, need to get some different bolt lengths and install backing, just seeing how it would fit. Very pleased.

I have to say that's impressive. I'm assuming the mounting legs have fasteners molded in so you just bolt it down? That mount looks perfectly level. Great job.

No they are thru bolted. I am going to use thick rubber washers were they sit on the gel coat.

That should help dampen any vibrations or pounding from rough water. Did you buy the materials as a kit, or made it yourself? Looks awesome

Hi HangOutdoors. The round post/legs mounting the starboard to the boat gunnel, what did you make those from? Are those hollow pieces of PVC pipe? thx

If I were you, I would patent that mount. It's impressive. I bet there are other boaters like you who enjoy fishing as well.

@RMay72 Yes it is Delrin (poly-acetal). Solid, won't break or bend, high resistance to the elementas and heat. When I went to go pick up the G10 for the backing plates, I was chatting with the guy telling him what I was doing and he gave me some scrap rods to play with. Worked out great. You can see the pictures of the different rods in this picture. Check link below for the trip I took to the plastics factory. I didn't want to use PVC pipe I wanted something solid that looked good. I just vice clamped them and drilled straight through, would of been better with a drill press.

Any Plastics shop should have different rods and types to suit you. The one near me is an hour and a half away. Well worth the drive. Will be using the rods for other things in the boat as well rather than aluminum rods.

Ahh, Delrin is a very durable material. Not inexpensive though, it is used a lot in manufacturing and material moving . That was a lucky add on from the seller. Thx for the info.

Yeah, after I posted that, I found where I could source some smaller sized pieces at affordable prices. But the link you provided offers even better prices. I'm looking to add a trolling motor to my boat and I believe I will do a similar installation. Yours and and a few other posts on this forum have been very helpful in formulating a strategy. That being said, now the trolling motor I'm sourcing is backordered everywhere I look. Anyway, I will document my install and share it here once I'm done.
