Every year, in October, we have a run on the Illinois river from Starved Rock Park in Peru, IL to Peoria IL. This is a 78 mile trip. It usually takes us 2 or so hours to cruise down. We eat lunch and head back up. It is usually a nice relaxing pace. We usually have around 12 - 15 boats. We will plan to leave Starved Rock at 8:30 am. Everyone should plan on getting there between 7:30 am - 8:00 am, so that we can launch and be ready to go by 8:30 am. We always encourage boaters to dress in layers. We usually always start off in sweats and end up in t-shirts by afternoon.

I made Kuchies for 11 am but need to get a good number of participants to let them know so they will have room for us. It is important that we get there at 11 right as they open to ensure we get dock space. The owner said bring mosquito repellent just in case. I would surprise me if mosquitoes are still an issue that late in the year, though. They also mentioned that they will have expanded their menu by then, as they are finalizing some items this week. They are anxious for us to try their new items.

Also, after we leave lunch there is a marina (Eastport Marina) about 1 mile away where we can refuel before heading back north.

Again, please let me know if you are going to make this trip so that we have enough room at Kuchies. I would like to give them a headcount and the earlier the better.

Sounds like a fun run. Wish I could join you guys.

I’ll add this to the list of stuff I’d like to do that weekend, along with a poker run on side by sides… but I’m 85% sure I’ll be watching 3rd grade soccer that day. Calendar hasn’t been announced yet, but expect it in the next couple of weeks.

@Babin Farms you aren’t in that pic are you? That was 3-4 years ago, I think? Our youngest, sitting on my lap holding the flag is 5 now.

It's just a short drive up here from your place, you might as well join us plus it'll be a cheaper lunch than in Bimini

I am not in that pic. The last 2 years we've wanted to but it just hasn't happened. I used the pic & most of the first post from a previous years event with the ok from OP.

I certainly hope this tradition continues. I need someone to pick up the torch. I am now living in Knoxville, TN, therefore not heading this, but one of the trips we always looked forward to, especially when we could time the changing of the colors.
I guess I am grabbing the torch from @OperationROL and going to keep this an annual event.

We made the trip down to Peoria & back. The day was GREAT! Couldn’t have asked for better. The water the whole way down was glass and just slight chop on the way back. We arrived at Kuchies just after 11 and they were already at about 75% capacity. When we left there was a line of people waiting to get seated. After lunch we proceeded to Eastport marina to get fuel only to find that they had none so we went to the Ivy Club for fuel only to wait 30 minutes on a boat making the Great Loop to fill with diesel, gas & empty their black tank. After 30 minutes they were still fueling so we called the Henry marina to see if they had gas. They did so we headed there. Talking to the fuel attendant in Henry this is the time when all of the boats start heading south on the Great Loop or to just head for warmer weather for the winter. After fueling up we got going & we’re nearly to Hennepin when the port engine RPM’s fluttered & is sounded different. I shut it down & checked everything only to find nothing. I decided to run the port engine at about 1/2 throttle & make up the difference with the starboard engine to maintain speed. This worked until about 1 mile from Starved Rock when the RPM’s of the port engine reved higher & it sounded right again but shortly after that I was getting an overheat light even though all the pissers were shooting water. I shut it down, closed the tow valve & got back to the ramp on 1 engine. Overall the trip was great and we are going to plan on doing this trip annually. As for the engine, I haven’t had a chance to look at it yet. Originally I was thinking I have an intermittent plug or coil pack but then the overheat kinda has me stumped. Looks like I’m going to have the off season to figure it out.

Your pictures bring back memories. I hope you didn't have to dodge Asian Carp.
Let me know if you want help looking at the engine. I am not far away.

Thanks for sharing, looks like a great time. My 232 starboard engine had the flutter RPM thingy the last week of summer 2020, I replace the ECU and voila , ran all this summer without issue. The over heating may have been caused by too much fuel going to the pistons due to a bad ECU, then it flows past the rings to the oil and dilutes it. Take a sniff of the oil and if it gas funky and level is high then you know ,

No Asian carp on this trip.
With rain most of the day I didn’t get to take a look at the engine. We’ll see what this next week brings.
