Hey all,

I have a 22 ar195 and it started loosing top end speed. Replaced sparks, topped off with 93 and got the bigger air filter. Ran a little better but not quite. Checked the pump and it looks like the impeller has a chip and there Scoring on the wear ring.

Question is now, will that cause the engine to bounce off the rev limiter? I have surfed on her before now problems but now at surf speed you can hear her pinging off the rev limiter and definitely seeing a bit more smoke than usual.

Yes that can induce cavitation. try and get us a picture on the impeller that will help.

Imperfections on both the leading and trailing edges of an impeller blade will produce outside the norm cavitation. In my experience with performance PWC, damaged impellers usually showed off their damage in the initial out-of the-hole acceleration which would translate into a loss of top but that top end loss was not as easy to feel (no speedos on standups). Have you experienced an abnormal delay (clutch slipping - burnout) sensation when going from a dead top/no wake speed to wide open throttle? As mentioned above, pics of the impeller would be helpful.

Here's a few pictures to help.

So I'm not noticing a serious dampening to the hole shot but definitely missing out on about 10 mph. Now yesterday when I was out and weighted with about 1500 lbs of ballast and using the hydropahse ridesteady it started bouncing off the rev limiter which it has never done before.

I notice some scoring on the wear ring and hard to see but I did notice a small ding in a blade the other day too. Would all that be caused by the impeller and ring?

It looks a little tighter on the right side the scoring doesn't look as bad from this angle. But yall tell me.

Always hard to tell without pulling the pumps. I don't see anything here, but I would expect most damage on the leading edge... which you can see the worst in these photos.

On the up side, don't see any rash either, which is a good sign.

So I'm trying to figure out now the parts are 680 bucks and the dealer said a total of 1300 part and install. Do I try and run her again with a half tank 93, the plugs and new air filter and see if it corrects? Or, is there damage I'm not seeing and Judy pull the trigger and have the dealer do the reapir?

Personally, I would pull the pumps and inspect the whole thing well before I took it to a dealer or ordered parts. Not even saying those numbers are wrong (they probably are, in fact, about right), but you only have a 2022 and I would be surprised if things are that chewed up already. More likely you have something wrapped around the shaft or something somewhere that you can't see...

This looks like it may be erosion from cavitation 1st pic is yours. Second pic is mine on my 255xd

Yes, that is cavitation rash. Happens when the microbubbles that form during cavitation burst. So that confirms that you are having cavitation. Unfortunately, it does not tell you the cause...

Impeller does not look bad at all to me, yes it does have signs of cavatation but all impellers do, not enough damage to casue the kind of cavatation and hittig the rev limiter your describing while maintaining surf speed at 11mph. Whats the actual RPM's your getting when this happens?

So before my loss of speed and everything surf rom with weight would be around 6800 going 10.5. Now I couldn't get it to maintain that or really get up to it so the system would hold the speed. It would get out of the hole but then climb up to the rev limiter and I would have to let off. FYI I am using a hydrophase ridesteady.
