Does Your Mooring Cover Leak?

Thanks for the suggestion @drewkaree - I had to go research your posts on boat boobs. They look excellent for towing, but tdo you use those for daily storage? Wouldn't 3-4 minutes to inflate/deflate get old for daily storage?

The Ryobi inflator that looks like a gun can inflate those in 2-3 minutes, and if you remove the nozzle and put it on the exhaust of the inflator, they're deflated in seconds.

If there's storage nearby, like my situation, I don't even deflate them, or just half deflated if necessary

My boat was shrink-wrapped for winter yesterday, however the guys told me that my boat was bone dry inside when they removed the mooring cover. We did get some rain the previous night, but nothing substantial like the rain from my original post.

At this point, my cover has recieved a total of 4 coats of 303. 3 outside and 1 inside.

Been in Fl about 8 years.............it works but only last approx 1 year in this southern sun.

My boat cover is 4 years old Sunbrella and its almost time to start the yearly coating. Sunbrella claims a 10 year water proof.....not in FL sun to hot and direct.

I have a 2016 AR240 and used a full gallon of 303 waterproofing on the cover and rain still seems to come through it like it's not even there. The cover itself is dry and water beads and runs right off, but it seems like the fabric is a loose enough weave that in a heavy rain, water just goes through it. It should let it dry out afterwards though. I keep a box fan running under the cover.

I just don't want everything in the boat getting completely soaked every time it rains.

Any advice on additional waterproofing on this cover or do I just need to get a new/different cover that is waterproof?

Hi @drewkaree, I used about 3/4 gallon on the cover to spray 2 heavy coats with about 5 hours between in the warm sun. To clarify "no major holes”, there is only one hole ~4mm dia. Over the rub rail (probably from bumping a dock while covered). This hole is well over the side. The rest of the cover is intact.

I'm really just wondering what is typical to expect for water resistance from a cover that is 6 yrs old - and also interested in any waterproofing improvements that might help

I have another gallon of 303 ready to go and will probably hit the cover again this weekend. The boat is getting shrink wrapped for winter storage after this week so I won't be able to post results until next season.

I just bought a new mooring cover as my old cover is falling apart. For the new cover, I'm thinking about applying canvas repair tape along the rub rails to protect the cover from bumping against the dock. Does anyone have any experience with canvas repair tape? If so, is it worth it for added protection??
