Engine Mods/Performance Upgrades

I just did a bunch of mods to my boat and was thinking of the ribbon delete. I the rings and the flame arrestor filters but I'm not so sure if I want to do it. It may gain me a few rpm on the top end but I don't run there often. I've been following the maptuner and ECU reflash and was wondering if this might be the way to go. I have a CARB boat and would like to see if the ECU reflash could bring the rpms up past 7,800 to where the non CARB boats run. @swatski, With your experience with the reflash, would it be worth it for my 240 thats a CARB boat?
@Noko I am scrambling to get out on the road to Ft. Lauderdale, our Bimini trip is a moving target.
But quickly - I do not know what limiting factors are with the CARB boat. Maptuner X (the new generation) is wonderful, but it is quite expensive and they (V-tech) finally decided not to give any discounts for boats with twin engines - so you would be paying double, which is a lot (probably around 2k when its all in). There is a definite improvement in torque and power, as well as delivery - the boat is quicker and smoother with tighter throttle control. But even with the non-CARB boats the top speed gains are minimal in 1.8l N/A (non-supercharged). And while revving the impeller faster does give you more room to play with impellers' pitches and such, you will have to address cavitation/prop slip due to increased torque, so there is some tuning of the pumps involved.
If I were you, I would ask about CARB engines reflash on Greenhulk. Someone must have done it there. Ask in the Yamaha 4 stroke performance, not in the boat section. If the reflash overcomes the CARB restrictions - it is probably worth it. But if it does not, no way.
In general, with supercharged engines reflash makes more sense as you gain boost with increased RPMs. Not so much with our N/As, and they are already tuned to run very high compression.
Cheers.
Hopefully my next post will be from abroad! (The Bahamas)
If only the weather holds...
