I’m swapping one of the RPM gauges for a Hydrophase Ridesteady gauge on my ‘18 212x. Problem I’m running into is unthreading the all white gauge. The panel came out super easy. Lefty loosey with an oil filter tool and a ton of force (feels like I’m close to breaking the dash so I’m pretty nervous about not going too far with the force) and it won’t budge. I even went the opposite direction and nothing moved. Does Yamaha use some plastic thread lock? I can’t see any, but maybe deep in the threads it’s there. Any advice? Am I missing something? I don’t see any tab or indent that locks it in place.

There should not be any thread lock on that. Maybe you can try some rubber on the inside of that oil wrench? You could also wet the nut area with soapy water to help reduce the friction.

The oil filter wrench isn't slipping at all when I apply a lot of load with equal and opposite load on the plastic dash. Seriously worry about it breaking. I did put a couple drops of oil on the threads a couple days ago in hopes it works its way down. No dice... not budging. So... I'm going to do what I heard someone else had to do (through talking w/ Hydrophase support) and I will cut the nut off. Probably use a dremel. Once it's split I'm curious if it will easily come off. It should if there is no thread lock. The other person that did this found theirs to be cross threaded and locked up. So maybe that's the case with mine.

Took a Dremel and slit the 4" gauge nut, came right off. Not crossthreaded nor thread locked. Just friction held it. No oil or soap could get it to budge. Put in the new Ridesteady gauge. Done. Still have to keep the RPM gauge hooked up behind the dash for the system to function properly, but I don't feel the need for it with RPM sync function on Ridesteady. If I feel like I want the gauge back I'll make a custom dash to mount all 3 gauges (2 RPM + 1 Ridesteady). And I'll have to source another 4" nut for the RPM gauge... lol.

I'm a bit late to this, but you did exactly what I would suggest. As an electrician, I always cut off locknut's that give me shit.
