New to me boat and finding all sorts of crap (and a ton of mildew 🤢)

IMG_6702.jpegI’m no expert but I don’t think this is what is meant by “flooded” lead acid batteries. Both boxes had 1/2” of acid water in them. I kept wondering why they were wet on top.

Might want to check if there are any cupholders that are leaking over the top of those covers, or if they're near an edge of the opening, which will have water come in over that edge, down onto whatever is underneath them.
 
Apparently, the previous owner just greatly overfilled them and they boiled out. I don’t know how there was that much water in there though.
