So I started a thread yesterday about buying solas impellers and having them custom pitched for starboard and port engines. I ordered the impellers and custom pitch upgrade yesterday from Impros. I than read a post that states " Yes anytime you repitch impellers, it affect the diameter- either makes them larger in areas, or smaller. When it grows, we machine the O/D so that it fits into the pump, and when they get a little smaller, we can't do anything about it, however the benefits to the repitched impeller far outweigh the loss of clearance at parts of the blade. David @ Impros" I then read another posts that after you repitch "When they get a little smaller, you weld, then file". It appears that the repitch of the impeller helps but also makes the impeller smaller in areas which leads to cavitation. Would the correct way be to repitch and then weld the smaller areas back to spec?

That was my post. After our discussion yesterday I emailed Impros and David replied that he can weld on to the impeller to bring it back to spec for an additional fee.

I'm still researching to See if I will really gain anything by doing this. As it stands right now my Solas are working very well... But of course there's always room for improvement.

There are quite a few people who have put on Solas impellers from Impros on this forum and the other crappy one. Most seemed satisfied from my research. It would be nice to hear from them.
