Interesting Article on Boat Sales

I feel your pain. We purchased a 212s in February. Yes February, and then the plant shutdown. It is expected to ship next week, fingers crossed. My dealer said they are hardly getting any of the boats they ordered and we were lucky. It stinks having to wait, but I think we see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Looks like 3 of them are leaving I hope one is yours.

Heard from my dealer yesterday. He said they are set to receive 60 wave runners 7/3. That is all they will likely see for 2021. They usually get at least 300.

He said they are going to shut-down the week after the 4th for retooling. They start stamping ‘21 boat vins hot and heavy from then. He wasn’t sure how many they’d see, but I was glad when he reassured me that I was a priority on the first batch they see.

It’s hot today. There’s no way I wouldn’t be on the water for Father’s Day. Happy Father’s Day to all you jet boaters!!

the new ski's aren't even released yet, how will he get them? LOL

Then they were probably the 2020’s they were getting for the year. I don’t follow the release cycles of jet skis at all. Not an expert on boats either, but from my understanding the last of the 2020 boats are shipping. Then after the shutdown they will be stamping 2021 boats.

That was the point I was conveying. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, not trying to come off as some sort of insider or expert. Since I am worthy of laughing at though, I shall defer to you. Sorry.

Dealers talking out there ass that’s all. No offense too you sorry about that.

I saw this video yesterday about an interview from BoatTest.com and Bryan Seti (Yamaha general manager of sales and marketing). Talking about sales and that the North American staff has gone back to work as of May 4th. The web page says the article was published June 19th, but it seems from the dialogue it is earlier than that (likely May).

In this article: 6 Reasons Boat Sales Are Booming Ahead of Summer 2020 Bryan indicates that Yamaha saw record sales in April (up 154 percent over 2019).

can confirm, there is DEFINITELY a frenzy.

good for sellers. bad for buyers lol

couple months ago I started shopping for our second boat there were leftover 2019 sx210's SO i casually made plans to chat with my credit union.. few weeks went by, work got nuts, backburnered it. I think I posted here....

couple months changed the whole market! I wanted to setup a test drive at Surdyke in Osage beach, they dont have any!! well on 275 but thats not on my radar.I called RiverValley up in MN the big dealer where I found the leftovers, even with them, Now its a 3-4 month wait if I'm lucky for an sx 210. and I'm not even sure what color!. There's 12 people ahead of me on the list lol And the out the door was like $48k! sx210 just isnt that nice. IMO. and the 190's arent any enough better than my boat to jump at one either...

Similar results for standard I/O boats. which after an excellent week of vaca at the ozarks, are back in my search. looking for decent mid-late 2000's+ @ 25-30k. looking 21-23. good swim platform, no red.

there just is no middle ground. there are boats priced as if they are chiseled from gold bullion, and theres garbage. lol just gonna enjoy ours for awhile longer, not like its a sad thing..... maybe this will drive even more innovation down the road.

also gonna say. boat salesman in general seem to just suck. ZERO excitement. just "sorry" Guess if they dont have to work for it, why bother, heh?

Its something that bothers me. happened with quads and motorcycles too.

this is exactly what I was told by RiverValley up in MN.

Yamaha could have a "Boatvana" just like "Carvana". Since there really are no options or upgrades you just pick your model, get the lower price since there are no salesman. Have it delivered to your house on trailer after prep and put in your driveway.

I just heard from the sales manager at our dealer. He said he talked to a Yamaha rep yesterday. They typically do not see new colors or specs until the Yamaha dealer show the first week of August. That is when dealers place their orders for the new Yamaha boats. He said Yamaha told them they will be taking a "special early release order on 19' and 21' boats in July". He said their Yamaha rep was going to be getting back to them on the timing of the early release.

This doesn't surprise me as they clearly are going to want to capitalize as much as possible on the demand; however, I will believe it when I see it! My dealer is Surdyke Yamaha in Osage Beach and as @Peelz said, they do have a 2020 275 available that is beautiful, but out of my league.

@Darren Scherer My dealer has one as well. Maybe if I hit that lottery ticket, or brush up against it. Then I will have a 210AR for sale.

@Darren Scherer I would be interested in this 'special early release order" on a 19', but I want to at least see what I am purchasing 1st. What new features are they adding to the lineups this year.

I bet the only thing that changes next year is color and price?

I really like their boats but just rehashing a color change and increasing the price is underwhelming. If that's the case I'm sure the used market will be hot with all the people trying to dump their summer boats once realizing they have to pay for storage and winterizing.

One problem with people trying to sell their boats after just one season will be that they're upside down on their loans they're going to want a premium dollar for their boat.

From my understanding, the 19’ models are all the same except for color. They are the most recently updated of the line and there will be other models that see face lifts first.

Seeing as the early release order is only on 19’ and 21’ boats, I would guess neither have any specification changes and it will only be color. Can’t imagine them pulling off a new model for early release, especially with the pandemic.

Hmmmm Smells like the 24's may be in store for a change?
