So I recently retired from the Army after 21 1/2 years so I figured it might be time to get something a little more comfortable for the water. I made the mistake and rode on a good friend of mines tri-toon with a honda 250 hanging on the back. The way that thing took chop and wake was absolutely amazing. On a flat Lake there's no way he could keep up with my SX240 but out in the big water here in FL my boat it jumping all over from the wake and hes burnning by me smoking a cigar. They are both 24ft long, 8' 6" wide but its a pontoon it feels 3 feet wider than a Yamaha. Figured as hard as a jet boat is to come by these days might be time to move on to a boat with one of those spinny things on the back. Am i crazy?

Thank you for your many years of service. Are you crazy? Absolutely not! It's a fact multiple hulls boats handle chop better. It's all about what YOU want to do. Being on the water is wonderful and calming no matter how you get there. The only drawback IMHO would be water sports; impellers are 1000% safer. Good luck in your decision.

I made the jump from my SX 210 to a Harris Solstice 230 last year. The Yamaha was bullet proof for 10+ years and served us well but my wife wanted something more comfortable and believe it or not the Tri toon is faster. I think Yamaha is the classic “jack of all trades, master of none” boat but 90% of our use was sandbar, cove cruising so I finally gave in to the pontoon (with the one concession I bought a Yamaha FX HO cruiser for when I wanted to cruise around faster). So if worried do what I did. Get the pontoon and buy a jet ski. Ha.

If it's right for you it's a good choice,

Have you looked at trim tabs to smooth your ride out?

Thank you for your service, I hope that you enjoy your retirement.

The sales guy at the marina that I store my boat told me last summer that I need to drive a tri-toon when I was looking for my current boat. I said no thanks, I'm not driving the boat version of a minivan. :)

Till you get passed by a pontoon with a 350 with grill going and 12 people.

I think they are bad ass but a tri-toon with a 350 is at least double if not triple what your boat costs. Also you can’t find pontoons any sooner than you can find a jet boat. I know someone locally looking to move a double decker 27ftTri-toon with 250.

I did see a tritoon once with triple 450r’s on the back. Did 114mph lol

It can pass me with five 350’s, a row of grills, and 100 people - I still ain’t getting one. If I’m gonna spend that kind of money on a boat it’s not gonna be a pontoon, tri-toon, quad-toon, or any kind of toon.

Idk man, I’ve walked around a 300k pontoon, that thing was better than our boats in every way shape and form.

The next boat I’d get would be a Midnight Express

Soooo guess your not getting a toon?

I can see why they’re popular, are great party boats, and have some advantages over bow riders - I just don‘t like the way they look. That‘s just my personal opinion which my ex-wife says isn’t worth much. :)

Where is the Video of the Tri-Toon making the Bimini Crossing?..

See a few out on LSC, usually flying by.
