I got one of these a while back, mainly for my bicycle rack so it wouldn’t thunck up and down all the time, it works well. I used it While towing the boat as well and it seemed to help.
The brake sliding back and thuncking when taking off from a stop bothers me more than the hitch being loose. I go
I installed the shims (anti rattle devices) that I bought initially. They were the correct versions, I just forgot that it mounts to the draw bar not the hitch/receiver on the tow vehicle. I know, DUH! It was a reminder to at least flip through the instructions. Double DAH!!
Anyway, I used a hammer to set the shim’s position and had to use it to release and reinstall the draw bar from the receiver but there is absolutely no play in the at all in the assembly. At least not when I jump up on it, actual use won’t happen for a few months.
@BigAbe75 , it’s a blank from pep boys that I stuck a raised Yamaha symbol on from a stock kit that contains the symbol along with the letters to spell “YAMAHA” usually located on the sides of their boats around $35 per set at Yamaha sports plaza.
Misc pic of of the one on the front hitch of my boat tow vehicle (2010 expedition limited).
BAck on topic, while I was at Home Depot today I bought two of these, one for each tow vehicle at $15 each it bring some the total cost of each anti rattle kit (wedge plus hammer) to about $40.
I got to test the anti-rattle device/collar today as I took an impromptu boat run to close out the season. The device worked perfectly. I didn’t hear the hitch/drawbar sounds at all over a 60 mile round trip with plenty freeway and city (lots of stop signs and lights) driving.
If the rattling as a result of play between the receiver and draw bar bothers you I highly recommend this product, $25 plus shipping and the cost of a hammer.
