So in cleaning my boat yesterday I stuck my head into the ski locker and noticed the ski locker drain plug is gone.. the base is there but the whole plug part is missing. And the base has a chip missing out of it.. I have no idea what happened to it.. is there a specific place to order one if a specific size i need to look for?

Lol. i forgot about this post.. I tell my wife about the missing plug and she quickly tells me she has it... i said why didnt u tell me? I thought it was missing.. she said.. I did......... twice!.. uhh.... hard to come back from that!

I just got my boat. How do you remove this plug? I have some rain water in mine and all I see is a square hole and I don’t know how to remove it. Is there a special tool?

The pic is a bit small, but it looks like the standard square garboard plug on older boats. Just use any wrench that fits proplery, about 14mm size I think. My old stern drive had one like that in the transom and I kept a small adjustable wrench in the back of the truck just for this. When you put it back in, careful you don't overtighten, the threads are plastic and tighten as you go in so it seals without being too tight. I would spin it in finger tight, then maybe 1/3 turn with the wrench to snug it in there.

Edit - @drewkaree Oh is that a socket screw perhaps? I couldn't tell from the pic.

That doesn't seem to be the original, and if it were my boat, I'd remove it and replace it afterwards.

I don't know the size of that, so I can only offer an idea based on what it looks like to me. The shape looks to be similar to a socket adapter, so I would see if a 3/8" adapter would fit in there, and try other sizes of adapters if you have them. Alternatively, an Allen bolt socket MAY work also.

I'm offering these ideas because it sounds like you don't have the original removal tool, and it's worth trying out before you buy a specific removal tool - also the reason I would remove it asap

On my '12, that the plug there is plastic (and set into a plastic fitting) with a flat piece sticking up (so you can just grab it with your finger and thumb). So that is definitely an aftermarket 'improvement' someone made.

Ok so what does the original look like? And does it come out by hand or is there a tool?

What’s in there now is an innie that is a perfect square. I am at a loss as to what to use to remove it. I will check if it’s like a socket. I tried Allen wrenches but that hex does not work on this square.

If anyone knows where I can get the original and any needed removal tool, please let me know.

The original can be found at @tdonoughue link above. Another idea, since it's an innie, is to get the widest standard screwdriver, and use that to twist it out.

Another idea would be if you have any metal bar stock, stick it in there and use a vice grips to twist it out.

Last idea is to find/buy a square head bolt that fits in there, and use the vice grips.

You COULD drill into it and try a bolt or screw remover, but I'd use that as a last resort

I just blew up your pic - unscrew the two phillips screws and you should be able to remove the whole thing. You may need to cut any sealant on the black fitting to free it up, but that SHOULD be all you need to do.

Promptly replace it with the proper fitting @tdonoughue described - should be tool-free removal of the correct plug (installation will require hand tools)

I found this on that link 2012 Yamaha SX210 (LAT1100BL) Hull Deck Fittings | Yamaha Sports Plaza but I do not see the drain plug for the ski locker. I have gone thru all of the links on that page but do not see it.

I am going to try a few things today so I can hopefully get that thing out. I want to wash the boat inside and out so I definitely need to be able to drain the water.

Drain Plug Assy (assembly). Someone else will have to verify, but all of the drain plugs on my boat are interchangeable, I'm assuming your model/year is the same.

Great minds...

I was able to get the plug out of the ski locker with a ratchet extension. The water did drain some but very slow and it did not all drain as of when I walked away. To be fair, the boat is parked in a way that it is not tilting backward so I know not all the water will drain. I was just surprised that the water that did drain went so slowly.

Tomorrow I will follow your suggestions to get a new factory plug. Are there any other drains or plugs in this boat that I need to deal with? I know about the plug at the back of the boat.

Dunno about your engine bay, but mine has 2 more in there. One on the firewall pointing towards the bow, and a second directly below it on the floor of the engine bay. You may not have these, this is for a 2019:

My 2012 has those; his probably does as well.

Those should be the 3: ski locker, two in the engine bay.
