Starter replacement on 460bb in Nordic custom Scandia mini day cruiser

Now that my stater is out of the housing I can't find a area big enough to pull it out from under motor, the hardin header sits directly above my stringer and the Berkeley jet pup connects to the motor has a cover that is over the flywheel (flex plate I believe it's called) it blocks it from coming out the front (or rear ) so do I need to take off my header to remove it or the flex plate???
