Have you even tried this new boat as it is from the factory ? We must have typed at the same time. I am always around Tierra Verde or Fort Desoto , or the skyway playing with big ships in the shipping lane.

There is a real huge sand bar in Bunces pass right in front of Desoto, lots of other Yamaha jet boat owners are always parked there. It is particularly popular because it is NOT in the preserve, so beer and pets are ok.

Does anyone with a 2015 242LS have these fins on? I have thought about them too, but then salesmen and parts specialist at my Yamaha dealership swear I don't need them with the new articulating keel.

However I'm still thinking 5 have GOT to be better than just 1. Any thoughts from those with the new keel?

Honestly, i have the 2015 SX240 right now I do not feel the need for fins. But I have only been out on the boat for two hours. Once I do some more no wake speed and see how the stearing is, then I will decide on fins. Probably decide this weekend if they are needed.

Benny: Just for your information: Anyone with a 2015 24-foot Yamaha CAN answer this question and help you, if they are able to reply.
All of the hulls and ancillary equipment (keel, etc) are the same.
And I meant to say earlier I, for one, do not agree, with your dealership.

You may not NEED a set ...... but you'll WANT a set. BIG DIFFERENCE !
Good Luck, Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA

Every few years, Yamaha makes improvements. Sometimes they are compromises. For instance, some would say the ability to bow dive the boat into a submarine move was a plus, others argue they would never do that to their boat. But that was lost with the intro to the 240 series from the 230. And now the 2015 with all of its improvements, adds a full length bottom keel chine followed by the "articulating keel". It is a low speed handling improvement, but it does restrict some of the more fun high speed characteristics that have been common to the Yamaha line for years. The more stable the boats get, the less radical you can maneuver it. Dealership employees sell boats and are motivated to provide information to help "sell" them. Ever since Yamaha came out with the TDE, thrust directional enhancement, I think the average practiced owner could easily deal with the boat without fins or articulating keels. They all add improvements, but they also have some additional characteristics that you may or may not like...and we continue with the ability to make up your own mind, but your opinion may not follow suit with person that recommends it strongly. Just remember, your mileage may vary!

If you have to travel through numerous slow speed or "No Wake" zones, fins can be a great help. At speed they are out of the water (at least on my boat).

Any type of rudder or fin will "help" the boat track better, but you do still need to learn how the boat handles and how not to over-correct too much when steering. Let the propulsion do the steering as it was designed to do. Typically I just use the throttles to steer the boat when going slow...and I really don't enjoy going slow when I could be going FAST!

On our lake people ignore no wake zones and no wake courtesy...it's a pet peeve of mine. I've seen people given tickets at Lake Fork for ignoring no wake but that's about it.
