Yamaha Diagnostic System (YDS)...how to read your hours and errors

Hi!
I try to connect YDS cable with 1.33 version software to my 2008 Yamaha engine. The connection with ECU is established and I can see something. But the menu items where I can read hours are unavailable. Why that can be?

On most of these boats you have to unplug the tachs, did you do that, not sure if thats the issue though

Not sure you have the correct YDS... Mine from 7 years ago has a jetski, I believe, in the upper left corner, yours has an outboard motor. Other than that, not sure of the difference. I know my Yamaha outboards have remote hour meters. And don't store this information. Engine hours may not be part of outboard YDS data collected.

I try to connect to Outboard motor, that's true! Unfortunately I do not have any remote meter installed.

One thing that I discovered through fellow Jetboaters was that my YDS wouldn't work unless I had it set to run on com port 1. I'm not computer savvy at all but I would get the dreaded "communication error" until I switched my computer to run it on com port 1.

PS. I'm willing to help anybody out with a YDS reading too if you're in my area.

What was the fix for communication error?

I’ve dealed with this a lot in my case.
1) it works only if you set Port1 in device manager for this device
2) I was trying to use windows on virtual machine over macOS. That doesn’t work for me at all. Had to use pure Windows
3) windows 11 also was not working, I installed windows 10 and then it started to see it
