Yamaha surf wake wedge reveal!!! Warning pic heavy

Man, you should of bought a wake boat. lol

Just remember we were making the boat act like it had actual people weight in the boat. That was the only reason for all of the bags.

I agree that having a bunch of bags on the deck of the boat sucks. I always try to put my bags in the lockers under the seats. If you have a bunch of people on the boat then you are set and will only need a bit of ballast. You just have to put the heavies on the port corner for the best wave. jk

On my 210 , I just have the one bag on the seat exposed , everything els is under the seats :)

The guys with wake boats run this much ballast or more to surf , too. Last weekend I was out on an axis t22 and we ran 3200 to 4000 lbs of ballad with 3 people on boat and one on the board. 1600 pounds of that was bags on the rear seat and on the floor next to driver.

I'm taking the boat out on wednesday. I'll let you all know wh

True but those boats are designed for that. Our boats can do it but I bet the folks at Yamaha didn't plan for people putting 4000lbs on their boats. Besides with that much weight you are working those engines really hard. Our four bangers don't have the longevity that the big V8's have. If we have too much weight and expect too much from our power plants then we will be overhauling them sooner than later.

Be careful out there. If you sink your boat with that much ballast in it I doubt insurance will pay for any of it. Also, the water cops are getting wise to the ballast thing. They will look at what you have for weight (ballast/people) in the boat compared to the capacity plate.

Looks great, just a few comments:

I'm seeing the wake gate tab thing at the end closest to the ladder seem to flex a lot. and it just is not looking like that end is even doing much for the wake, like its way to far over to the other side. would it be better to just remove the hinged section, making the tab stronger as a whole? Also do you find you had to redesign the whole tab or just adjust for the different size boat? Reason i ask is it looks like the tab is now stepped, but it could just be the angle of the camera.

Also what RPM did you have to run at to keep ~10 MPH?

Cant wait to get mine!!!

The weight rating on those wake boats doesn't support putting thousands of pounds of ballast, either. I dunno. As far as I can tell, running 7K rpm while cruising at 35 mph shouldn't be any less "load" on our engines than 7K running 11 mph loaded with ballast. Since our engines operate impellers in pumps rather than a prop down in the water, load doesn't impact them the same way. That's why you can go WOT from a standstill and hit top rpm nearly instantly in a jet as opposed to a slower progression through the rev range in a prop driven boat. Conversely, the top rpm a prop boat will reach is directly impacted by how much weight is on the boat. I haven't run more than 1600 pounds in mine, but I wouldn't hesitate to put another thousand in it. Just my opinion.

Did anybody else see the fish jump next to the wake boarder @3:45? lol

3:47! I was about to ask the same thing! 11PM and I yell at my wife HAHAHA You gotta come see this... (to which she told me to be quiet)

You know, I have no idea why you would want a dedicated wake boat unless you just don't enjoy all other aspects of a Yamaha jetboat. This wedge is a game changer and very intriguing. I love the yamahas and an inboard drive boat just does one thing good. My Yamaha apparently can do more than I thought it could! Nice wake!

No the wedge is the same and we have actually tried to take off the extension with negative results. It needs that extension. I think the "flex" is actually a good thing. It rides on top of the water to help smooth it out.

I have said this many times Mel!! Ballast up and go surf, wakeboard. Then drain and go beach your boat for a relaxing evening or anchor out and relax on the swim deck with some snacks on the table. Doesn't get much better!!

Thats a lot of ballast. You shouldn't need that much. Maybe 1600-1700 tops. I have a 212x with two built in stock bags. They hold about 600 each but really it's like 500 each when their full. They go under the seats all the way to the back of the boat. Then I have two 350lb Straight Line bags . I put one under the seat next to the batteries on the port side. This fills up this storage compartment. I still have one bag left so I could either put it down the middle of the boat or on the seat on the port side closest to the surfer. JC told me with my new wedge that is all the ballast I will need. Don't buy anything yet. I'll let you know.

All of the ballast was mine except the 750lbs that they brought along. Most of mine is all built in except the 2-400lbs. Might change out the port side bag for a bigger one or add another under the seat so it keeps the wife happy not seeing all the bags in the boat!! That will also help when wakeboarding so I can still have even weight on both sides.

We where running just over 6000 RPM. Going up stream we had Perfect pass set at 10.2 mph and going down stream about 12 mph

I totally agree now with the wedge attached! I always have loved my Yamaha but love it even more now that I have such a great surf wake!!!

That is a damn nice wave! Does this mean you're ready for production orders on a 242LS ? I'd love one before mid-september :).

Very close!! A few drawing changes and a template and we should be ready to take orders.
