So it was 45 degrees and windy today. The wind was a killer under way.

With the new 2019 19ft revamp and the helm door that covers about 70 percent of the open space when the window is closed.

I would like to do something similar to the bigger boats, that is a door that maybe folds and attaches to the opposite side somehow.

Just seeing if anyone else has any ideas. I haven’t thought if a good one yet.

I will try to get some pictures tomorrow afternoon of the door open, if it’s not raining.

Thanks for any help.

On my previous boat I had a canvass cover made from the bow up to the window. Unfortunately it involved installing snaps and was about $300 but it did the trick. I am not willing to do any modifications to the new one, but yes, I also go out in any weather when i just want to get some fresh air.

I did see that, but I assumed with the 19 model being wider over all that the gap was bigger now as well so that would probably not fit.
I also didn't want to add snaps, which reading again on this one it should use existing snaps.

I like the idea of a door that folds out somehow like the 21 an 24ft models.
I don't know why they didn't just make one, it would of been so easy for them to do it!

I would also consider a bow cover. That does add snaps, but you basically get a closed bow boat!
THat can be very handy in rough water. Also can be a plus for storage etc.

how much do those usually cost?

The main thing I plan to do when it is cold is fish, and we fish off of the front as well as the rear, so the bow cover would probably not be convenient to remove and replace when ever we change fishing locations.

I am contemplating building a casting platform on the bow utilizing the new hinges on the front cushions. not sure if the will happen before next year though.

Someone has done a platform in the bow in a 190, and it looked good, older Model Year though w/o hinges.

The bow cover is about $150 IIRC, I had one installed by myself in my old 190, loved it, did not love the snaps.

I am not a fan of the snaps on the front either.

if I install the platform, it wouldnt be hard to just add a board that blocks the top half of the gap like the filler cushions do on the bigger models.

I would still like something that works without it though. I will think of something...eventually. Hopefully sooner than later.

Here is an intriguing thought. Unfortunately I am not skilled at sketching ideas.

Cut out a square of plywood from the boat floor to just above the bottom of the windshield in the area you want a door. This is going to sit in front of the windshield.
In the bow seating there is some space between the back rest cushion and the seating cushion. Attach a piece of 1"x3" about 3 feet long to the front center of the square, in a horizontal manner. The ends of the 1x3 will fit behind the seat cushion and under the back rest cushion. Mat need to use a 2x4 so it doesnt have any movement. Paint or stain to match the boat. No holes, snaps or cost.

Does that make any sense at all.

I’m following you on it. I was thinking something similar to that. It’s been cold and windy so I haven’t confirmed yet. But I was thinking there might be a little lip on each side of the opening that I could use to hold it in Place like on the 21 and 24s.

I want something that either swings out of the way like the door or worst case can be stored under the seat once we stop moving.

Along same concept, if I can utilize the lip or even that middle area you mentioned and maybe put a hinge in the middle of the board then it would fold up and stow away easily.

The door also opens and covers a lot, maybe put some kind of flaps on the inside that would fold up and out when the door is open to block the rest of the hole.

I am ready to bring my table saw down to the marina and start a prototype. Too bad rain this weekend.

so pulled the cover off today. here are some pictures.

I am thinking using the cutting board material, that is pretty close to what the door on the helm is made of.
Adding flaps to the door will be complicated and probably not to appeasing to the eye.

current ideas contemplating.
#1
I noticed the port side console is blank so maybe I could make a door with hinges in the middle that is permanently mounted and folds out of the way. if I used 1/4 inch it shouldn't stick out more than 3/4s of a inch when folded.

#2.
Using the idea of taking advantage of the 5 inch gap between the seat and back rest in bow area. Cutting a template that will just lay in the opening with hinges to have it fold in half and stow away in the bow or in one the of the console storages.

#3
same idea as above, except instead of using the area under back rest, there is a 2.5 inch ledge at the top in front of the windshield. maybe using that and having it drop in place? or something similar.

couple measurements I took.

Walk through at top is 20 inches wall to wall. and 21 inches glass edge to glass edge.
slowly narrows going down, at bottom it is 18.5 inches.
the floor to bottom of glass was a little shy of 29 inches.

The Walkthrough WindBreaker is only guaranteed fit for 2018 19ft yamaha and older. 2019 has redesign and I haven't checked for fit. If you ordered this contact me to let me know it is not for 2019.

@stevedj70 I did not order it, I figured it wouldn't fit being the redesign.

One thing to note on mine, I only have one snap on the bottom of the windshield.
