Well, the wife and I have had enough of 6+ months cold/rain and looking at relocating next summer.. I would prefer somewhere i can have a pool and actually use it Year around.. not a fan of humidity, hurricane warnings or big flying bugs.. I’m thinking southwest somewhere (absolutely not Cali).. I was raised in San Diego as a kid.. I am even thinking of selling the boat but haven’t quite made up my mind on that one..
Any recommendations would be welcome.. cost of living is a big factor as we are not rich by any means ( we are both RN’s).. We got plenty of time to decide.. housing market is crazy here so should do well when we sell..

You mean you don't like 92°, 92% humidity, 92% chance of hurricanes and 92,000 different bugs? There's also a 92% chance you get a bigger boat.

We are ditching NY and heading to GA in the June/July timeframe. Going from a 4 month boating season to an 8 month boating season. . . . CAN. NOT. WAIT.

I love living in AZ. We have plenty of lakes and rivers to put the boat in. The weather is good, and the cost of living is low. The Gov is making occupational licensing transferable between States too. So if you're licensed in your state it will transfer to AZ.

Have you considered travel nursing? Take an assignment or two and see how you like different areas.

Not sure on the cost of living anymore, but I lived in Durham, NC for several years, and we had considered moving back there for retirement until some things fell into our lap. Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham...all seem to be far enough away to not have to deal with hurricanes (unless you're a hockey fan, then...you kinda GOTTA be a fan!). Snow might be an issue for them, but it won't be for you. I lived through the terrible "blizzards" of 2" one year, 3" the next, and the 22" that was a once-in-99-years event. I used to wear a pullover during what they called "cold". Humidity is the only thing I hated, but that's why you go boating and have A/C for the cars and the house. You're close to some decent lakes and if you really wanna, you're only an hour or so away from Wilmington where you can hit the ocean, or head south to Myrtle Beach.

The wife was considering throwing the Carolinas into the hat but I won’t deal with humidity and we would still be somewhat close to kids and grandkids in the west.. we had also tossed around travel nursing back in the day (Bahamas) but we would like to just re-settle down somewhere warm/hot and enjoy the weather year around for once..

@malibu Dan you too?! Congrats....Pacific Northwest weather blows. I’m so tired of the gray. We’ve looked at phoenix area and austin area. We think we will get jet skis in az because you need a third to surf. But keep with boat if we head to texas. I’m headed to austin next week and we’re going again to phoenix at the end of april. Our timeline is pretty much yours.

Please give me an update after your visits. We plan on taking some weekend trips over the next year to start scouting out potential new “forever homes”... I totally agree.. we are so done with the PNW weather..

Lake Powell on the Arizona/Utah border is probably the most beautiful lake I’ve seen. We spend 4-5 days a month there from May-September. It’s only about a 4 hour drive from north Phoenix. We’re in Flagstaff which is about 2 hours north of Phoenix and enjoy living here. It’s a mountain climate and we get snow (had 4’ of snow fall in one day last week) but summers and falls are gorgeous. We’re less than a 2 hour drive to Phoenix so when we want to see 70 degrees in the winter it’s not far away.

We're moving to the Toona.
Are you buying a lake house on Allatoona? Or just moving to the area? I have watched the market over the past few years and lake property is very expensive due to the fact the COE doesn't issue new dock permits, so what is out there is very valuable. I lived in Acworth for 8 years before moving further south to Marietta. Traffic is a huge pain in the @$$ if you need to commute towards Atlanta. It was the whole reason we moved.
