Any discounts available for the L13 cones? I'm about to pull the trigger.
I would email Jerry Gaddis at his 4tec store.
There is a customary discount of 10% if ordering through greenhulk site, but you may or may not get a better price by asking directly, he might discount more since you would be getting two.

So the L13 cones went on this afternoon. Super easy install, especially with the @swatski write up. Just got back in from the first run with them on. I don't even know what to say really. I'm shocked. Absolutely floored. It's a different boat, in so many ways. It sounds different somehow, a little deeper engine tone. It feels different... tighter, quicker, much more responsive. It FEELS like it's ready to go, just waiting for more throttle. Full throttle from a dead stop produces zero cavitation, and the acceleration is mind boggling compared to before. In the turns, the pumps never give in. Before, it seemed like the pumps would unload and then just wait for the boat to settle down and then pick back up. Now it feels like the pumps are fighting to hang on. I did the one motor test. Up on plane easily and a top speed of 26mph. I had tried this before due to a throttle failure on the port motor, and all I could get was 12mph. That's a huge difference! I hage ridesteady installed and I have a cruise profile set to 28mph, by gps. I have Ridesteady dialed way back for this so there's no jerky throttles. If I floor it in this mode, I usually reach 30-31mph before Ridesteady reels me in to 28mph. Tonight, with no changes other than the L13 cones, the boat reached 37 mph before Ridesteady could react. The only difference is the massively improved acceleration rate. I was absolutely prepared to be disappointed. I've chased performance in a number of different vehicles, and usually incremental gains are all you get unless you drop a pile of cash. These L13 cones are true winners.

So with all that said, I'm running blue red gold on the port side and no spacers on the starboard side. The starboats side tops out about 200 rpm less than the port motor, which it did before honestly. Port runs 7600, with starboard around 7400. If I understand it correctly, adding a spacer to the port motor might bring the rpms down to match the starboard, right? But do I want to do that? There's nothing I can do with spacers on the starboard motor that would increase rpms, right? I have yet to seal and polish the intakes, but that doesn't affect rpm, does it?

Sounds like you got it dialed-in pretty good! I wouldn't bother with trying to match the sides exactly at this point, and correct about STRBD and spacers.
(Must reuse the o-rings as I'm sure you know.)

Yeah, the L13s rock. I was out today with 12 people in the boat, all adult/adult size. No issues getting up on plane, still went 43mph up the river.

I've got an '18 242X. I assume I'd use the SHO/HO cones vs. the SVHO cones, correct?

Thanks!

Correct, assuming the cone is the same part number as previous years (2019 pumps now have been redesigned but the cone I think is still the same). The SVHO has a different pump with a 4-bolt cone pattern vs three in HO/SHO.

I'm planning on installing my cone this weekend. I was looking at the service manual and it shows the use of Loctite 518 as a flange sealant on the venturi. Has anyone applied 518 here, or have you just simply put it back together without any new sealant?

I went with the WelWolf Adjust-A-cone and used the blue gasket maker/sealant (as directed). I believe adding something is better than nothing.

I looked everywhere for that Loctite 518 product and couldn't find it. Was about to order online but I'm impatient so I ended up using Permatex Anaerobic Gasket Maker instead, which according to their cross reference chart is an acceptable replacement. And, more importantly, I could find at almost every automotive store in my area. As near as I can tell it has held up well for at least a full boating season now. I'm not under warranty so I really didn't worry if Yamaha might care. Good luck! The difference the L13 makes is worth the effort, especially on single engines.

Thanks guys. I picked up the Permatex Anaerobic Gasket Maker as well. I found the Loctite but it was only sold in a large tube which cost about $100.

Received and installed the WetWolf AAC. Pretty impressed with the results. He sent me 3 different lengths and I installed the longest. I'm not looking for hole shot or WOT speed but rather better fuel economy. I started with the longest cone (based on Bruce recommendation). He then sent an even longer cone.

Prior: 31 mph @5500 rpm, burn rate: 5.8-6.0 gph/engine, WOT: 58 mph @7850 rpm,
Longest cone: 31 mph @5350 rpm, burn rate: 5.3-5.5 gph/engine, WOT: 59 @7850 rpm,
Even longer cone: 31 mph @5130 rpm, burn rate: 4.9-5.1 gph/engine, WOT: 57 @7650 rpm,

Edit: @swatski pointed something out. After reading it about 3 times I reread my post (cause I know that at WOT I'm at ~18 gph/engine. The burn applies to the cruising speeds only not WOT. Thanks for saying that kindly :jawdrop:.

Wow those are some impressive results. Certainly worth a 1-2 MPH loss.

My exact feelings! I can't afford to be WOT anyways. Can't get very far (Fastest Way to Empty). ;)

Was another mod for Abacos! Almost ready...

Those of you with twins, what is your burn rate at that speed? Just curious...

What is your cruising speed and gph?

Your numbers are way, way better than anything I would ever see. Almost too good? The top speed I believe but the fuel burn does not make much sense.
I top at about 49-50mph, most of the time, depends on conditions etc. I had seen 56mph but that is not normal or sustainable in a stock Yamaha 240, 49-50 is about it.
At that speed (at WOT) I burn somewhere in the neighborhood of 13-14gph per engine, or about 26-28gph for both...

Here is a random pic (WOT):
fullsizeoutput_1c50.jpeg

EDIT: My best cruise... That's super difficult to tell exactly as it just depends so much on load, conditions, attitude etc., but it is about 6,000-6,200RPM at about 30mph and it is more or less 6gph per engine, 12gph total burn. Ball park figure.
I can probably do better with 93 non-EtOH and runnign the Riva ECU tune, but that's basically for watersports, so I don;t really keep track of fuel economy as it would be all over the place anyway.

You're right! Nobody would have those burn rates at those rpms. Thank you...

I’m about ready to pull the trigger on ordering an L13 cone. Can anyone confirm that I need the sho/ho 3 screw model for my new 2019 AR 190? Anyone already put this cone on their 2019 AR 190 with a good result? I heard they changed the pump a bit this year so just making sure I’m good to go before dropping $300 on the cone. Any insight is appreciated.

My sx230 06' no HO mr1 I burn 24gph WOT
at 7800rpm I am at about 27mph depending on conditions and burn about 10.8-11.3gph

That is total not per engine.

Wonder what I could do with a new cone.

That's correct. Installed the sho/ho lucky 13 cone today on my 2019 190. Pretty easy. Make sure to swap grease and o ring. I was concerned that I tightened the Allen bolts too much. Added cobra fins as well. We'll test it out this weekend.

You are going to love it!

Both of those mods make a huge difference in the 190s.
