As long as they dont get wet you will be fine wit car amps thats what ive been usin for 8 years on my yamahas the only difference in marine is a special coating but they still arent water proof the only water proof amps are the ones for powersports like on the UTV or SXS

Oh yeah, I'm not worried about it. I use conformal coating on the connections at the amp so they are more water resistant incase something small happens.

I'm just putting up the disclaimer that in more humid like conditions, IDK how the amp would hold up. Just throwing out my experiences with it. I would never use non-marine speakers though! I had a non marine HU.... It got fried when some asshole filled my boat with water from his v8 jet boat (roosted bad) so I have a marine HU now.

@adrianp89 Thanks for the information.

I spend a LOT of time specifying mechancial and structural components, and the premise of safety factor is forever baked in me. For instance just today I spec'd a 15hp motor for a device that should require ~12.5hp. I have overhead in power, however this is more of a "draw" situation not a "drive" situation. I always had in my head that you never wanted to create overhead in a "driven" situation or you lead to breakage/failure somewhere along the chain of components.

Thanks again for the explanation.

So, I' debating the JL 10" M series vs MX series IB sub. I'll likely be going with a Kenwood M3001 amp which is rated at 200w RMS at 4ohms. Is the M series worth $90 more than the MX?
