Speaking of carrying a gun on a boat, does anyone here carry a weapon if they are camping in remote areas? I just bought a camper and plan on doing some camping in areas that don't always have other campers around. There are also bears to deal with. (the wife doesn't know this)
When I did my coast to coast RV trip, I always have it with me. In states I didn't have permit to carry it stays in the camper locked in case/with ammo separate. However when I am in remote area like national park or wildlife reserve, I have it loaded at night, regardless if I have a permit or not in that state lol.

I'm absolutely shocked that I've almost made it to 55 years old, traveled around the world (and across this country dozens of times), been in situations and places that would scare the crap out of most people and (like 67-70% of the adults in this country) did it WITHOUT OWNING A GUN!

Shocked, I tell you!

Good for you and your choice should be respected, don’t think that other choices is wrong just because your point view is different… to each his own. “Not shocked” with your response have a good day!

Not sure what this has to do with anything? Most people with a gun go their whole life without having to even think about using it. What’s the difference?

It had to do with people stating things like they always carry (illegally) in national parks even though they aren't licensed in that state.

Guess that person "living as a criminal" should be shot too, right?

Or who is the arbiter of what "living as a criminal" entails? If I come upon sometime illegally in possession of a firearm shouldn't my first response be to protect myself and my family?

Inside your rv is consider your residence but no need to explain myself …. I don’t drop in conversation with people that doesn’t like guns and shove it in their throat that they need it… I don’t have expertise in walking naked so I shut my mouth lol

Yes. Depends on what your main goal is for what to carry. If you worried about people you probably want something smaller/higher capacity, bears your going to want a large caliber revolver. If it’s just black bears, bear spray/horn and good preventative measures for food storage are a great defense if you aren’t a firearms guy. Brown bears are significantly larger, and can be much more aggressive, I personally wouldn’t camp in brown bear territory without a bear gun.

You alright, bro? Seems you may have some anger issues. You probably shouldn't own a gun anyway🤣🤣🤣
You're correct, I should heed the advice to not argue with a fool.

Your coming off pretty triggered here. You have no idea of his licenses or if he is breaking any laws. As far as I know, carrying in National Parks is legal as long as you abide by state laws. Further more, most conceal licenses are recognized by other states. For example FL concealed is a legal license to carry in over 20 states.

He stated himself that he carried in parks in states where he didn't have a license.

Triggered? Nope. Just don't think reaching for a gun should be the first response as so many are stating, or implying, here.

I missed that post by him.

I don’t think anyone here is stating a firearm should be the first response. Maybe I missed that too.

Good riddance? Thug? Living criminal life?

Out of curiosity I looked up his "record."

OMG he deserved to be shot - he has a couple speeding tickets, driving without a seatbelt, etc...

I hope I never meet you (or various others posting on this thread). Ridiculous.

To be clear - I am not second guessing the the decision not to charge the 74yo man. The DA felt the shooting was justified.

But someone who feels they need to carry 'at all times" or would've pulled a gun on a boatload of "thugs" cuz they "stared him down" has serious problems and is EXACTLY the type of person who shouldn't have a gun in the first place.
Yes good riddance. Dude goes around assaulting people then expect consequences. Yea I’m sure those brass knuckles tats on his gut line right up with the kind of saint you’re trying to paint this dude as. Guess you missed those details on your background check :D. I’m sure brass knuckle tats = “I’m a good little boy” but I digress .

Regardless of what his priors were, they had zero bearing on his actions during that incident and on that day. People can be killers or felony criminals and never be convicted of a first major offense….yet. Has to start somewhere ya know. A 70-something year old couple is no match for some 20-something thug that clearly made a mistake that he paid the ultimate price for. Had he not made those choices and put himself in that situation then he’d still be here today now wouldn’t he? What were they supposed to do? Just get their asses beat or worse? You gonna come rescue them? The cops? Nonsense.

I don’t care if you care to ever meet me or not. You’re acting as if I said I go around pointing my gun in peoples faces or some stupid shit lol. Nobody is saying he should have died cause he stared at some guy wrong. You also can’t just brandish a firearm at someone for no reason as thats a good way to catch a felony. Not even sure why you’re trying to say I even said that nonsense or the mental gymnastics required to pretend I said such a thing or even insinuated such is asinine. Where are you getting this from? He assaulted them not once but twice. 99% of people legally carrying are regular people who never want to have to use their firearm. However for those times they’re in a bad situation where they fear for their life, they have every right to protect themselves, their family and in my state even their property.

Basically play stupid games win stupid prizes. I see enough bad shit in the channels I subscribe to that I understand the world is a candle box at any given moment. Don’t want to carry a firearm to protect yourself that is your right. Thankfully your opinions end where my rights begin. As far as I’m concerned it’s better to have and not need than need and not have. There are MILLIONS of legally law-abiding citizens that are rightfully carrying and never want an issue with anyone nor do any harm to anyone. I carry mostly everywhere because .....well, criminals don’t make appointments nor tell you when and where it’s going to go down lol. Being prepared is the whole point. It saved this couple from what they and everyone else determined was gravely harm. Thankfully I’ve never had to use my firearm on someone and I hope I never have to, but if I do I’ll be glad I at least have the chance to keep myself alive and/or protect my loved ones or at least do my best trying. It beats the alternative. Otherwise you’d never know I was carrying just like 99% of the other legal firearm owners who abide by the laws and just want to be left alone.

Someone carrying narcotics illegally, would likely be as unnoticeable and undetectable as someone carrying a firearm illegally. You would have zero right to engage either, unless directly threatened by them. You couldn’t legally dispatch someone wearing a kilo of cocaine on their head like a hat, or someone with a rifle slung over their shoulder pointed at the ground. Even if you knew both were doing so illegally, killing someone who has shown zero interest in harming you or anyone else, would certainly land you in prison.
