2016 FSH 190 Sport Re-Sale/Trade-In Value...

Ouch! I am flabbergasted...
Thank you for sharing.

@ClemsonTiger sorry to hear about this but you are not the only one and the fsh isn't the only jet boat treated like this. You best bet is to possible post it in the classified section here and put it on boat trader and try and sell it yourself. My next boat will probably be similar to something like you are looking for in your next boat something a little bigger and more offshore capable( more fuel capacity, higher free board, and such). I have spoken to several dealers and here is what I found if they do not deal in jet boats they do not want it. I have had the same conversations on my sx240 we are not interested in trading it or the trade offer is so low they basically said they didn't want it with the trade offer. In order to make it work you almost have to deal with a dealer like captains choice marine in Columbia SC who sells Roballo fishing boats but also carries Yamaha boats and even then there are no gaurentees but those dealers are usually more forgiving as the have foot traffic walking in looking at jet boats so they know in the end they have a shot at selling it. The other dealers that do not sell Yamahas sit on them forever as they usually do not get foot traffic looking for jet boats heck you will be surprised how few of them will even take jet skis on trade for the same reason. I almost bought a Sea Fox last year and was thinking of trading a 2012 sea doo gti 130 in on that and the dealer refused point at the pair of jet skis they had sitting out front that had been there for 18 months and he said never again.

Wow, that is crazy. It has to say something about the market for this boat though..

I would agree, you will probably have better luck selling here...

There obviously is a market for the boat, but... I can see around the coast, for a fishing boat, there being a slimmer market as compared to a traditional outboard CC boat. I think Robert said it best, try to sell yourself or trade to someone who sells jets already. Very interesting information and I wish you the best in your quest to upgrade!!!

  • Boat $31,999
  • Extended warranty $2,500
  • FL 6% sales tax on boat & warranty was $2,069
  • Garmin & Transducer installed was $1,500
  • Metal holders were $400
  • Outriggers were $1,000
Roughly comes to $38,668 total costs for equipement, warranty & boat purchase.

sorry to hear this but all that extra stuff
  • FL 6% sales tax on boat & warranty was $2,069
  • Garmin & Transducer installed was $1,500
  • Metal holders were $400
  • Outriggers were $1,000
take it off the boat because anything you add does not count to what you will trade or sell it ever!!!
This is the same way with cars too. Im sorry you spent so much time and money modifying it for you but that doesn't change the value of your boat......
boats are some of the most depreciating items you can buy new........

all that said man I would love to find a 20k fsh 190 in good condition hahaha

I do agree with you though that 20k is crazy low for this boat and how new they are didn't mean to sound mean just stating facts been down that path selling boats as well never fun selling.

I would defiantly go and list on crags list and boat trader there are people who will buy it for far more then 20k

Hi,

New to the forum but my wife, myself, and our kids have a FSH and have completely enjoyed it for about 7 months now. I have been reading the FSH forum for a bit now and its unfortunate that you under-purchased when you bought the FSH. As for your problems "Selling - unloading it" it sounds like the dealers you have been talking to sense desperation and 100 times out of 100 they will take advantage of it each and every time. When we purchased our FSH we did research as much as we could but there was not much out as there is now. But we didn't buy it to resell 6 months later so I can see that you are angry but it really shouldn't be at the FSH.

You stated your cost was 38K. Well lets start at the 31'999.00 and forget the rest because it means nothing on resale. So you paid 31'999.00 and when you drove it off the lot it was worth 29'999.00 as it was no longer "NEW". You said you put 150 hours on it so it depreciates even more from there and you replaced some items with non standard ones which could be negative for it too. I'm sure there aren't too many people looking for a FSH to take off shore set with outriggers. (overkill)

Bluebook shows $24'5 (low) to $27'8 (high) but there are many contributing factors that go along with it but it may help in some way as for a fair price area. The extra warranty may help some if you are selling it yourself but the items you installed were for you and you alone.

Things I would try:
1) Hit ALL the Yamaha dealers from Keywest to Jacksonville. Ask for a price for an outright sale or even possible a consignment.
2) List it on BoatTraders.com
3) Clean the HELL out of it and take it to any and all boat shows you can with for sale signs on it. Sit in the parking lot with it, bring a grill and cook those fish you caught on it.
4) Take it to heavy used boat ramps and put for sale signs on it. For people who want to upgrade to a newer boat. You never know.
5) Rethink the sale and try to enjoy it some more. Try to resell it in the early spring 17 when boat season starts and people have tax refunds burning a hole in their pocket.
6) Wait till Yamaha comes out with the 21 - 24 ft FSH. (Added sarcasm from the posts I've read)
7) I want to help so I'll offer you $15K for it right now. (OK... this was more sarcasm, I already have one)

Hope something above helps.

Best of luck,
Paulie Z.

Fair Warning:
I know boats depreciate horribly. I know Trade-In Value provided by dealerships/brokers are horrible.

1# Most have never heard of this boat and don't know anything about it.
2# Those that do know about the boat don't even want to consider it for trade in.
3# Those that have first hand experience with the boat won't ever touch/deal for it again.
  • Boat $31,999
  • Extended warranty $2,500
  • FL 6% sales tax on boat & warranty was $2,069
  • Garmin & Transducer installed was $1,500
  • Metal holders were $400
  • Outriggers were $1,000
Roughly comes to $38,668 total costs for equipment, warranty & boat purchase.

The quotes received for trade-in were $18,500 & $19,200

There is a dealership next door to me that sells glassstream center console boats. I will ask them there thoughts on the fsh and see if the market is different in western Kentucky. Thanks for sharing!

I know I am in the S. Florida market and center console jet boats are not marketable. With that being said...I think the following should prepare FSH owners for the harsh reality facing them whenever they decide to try and unload their FSH boats.

I have been trying to obtain trade-in values from multiple dealers/brokers here in S. Florida as well as other dealers throughout the state of Florida. I have even reached out to dealers/brokers in S. Carolina, Texas, Maryland, Pennsylvania & New York.

1# Most have never heard of this boat and don't know anything about it.

I have learned that I am not the only FSH owner who is already trying to unload/trade-in their boat. A few dealerships have already had other FSH owners calling to get values and wanting to purchase a new/different boat. A few dealerships have accepted FSH trade-ins and those that have say they will never do it again. They site the difficulty in marketing and selling the boat. Buyers who are looking for a used center console are NOT looking for a jet boat version. The dealers that accepted them as trade-ins stated that they had to liquidate the boat to a 3rd party wholesaler and either broke even or took a small loss.

I get the same reaction when I tell them what my trade in boat is...either a small chuckle or a sigh followed by "eh, I dunno, thats a tough one".

I was able to obtain only 2 quotes out of the dozen of attempts I made and both dealers emphasized their desire to not even take it as a trade in and preferred to consign it only. Both quotes will be listed at the bottom of this post.

I gave the same info and pictures to every dealer/broker that would at least look at it and consider it, before ultimately saying they would not accept it as a trade in or just never responding at all, even after I followed up after.

  • It has 150hrs on the engine.
  • 10hr, 50hr, 100hr & 150hr scheduled maintenance has been performed at Riva Yamaha and I have all the records to show.
  • It has a 5 year extended warranty that I purchased from Yamaha (YES) and it is transferable.
  • It has a single axle trailer
  • I installed/replaced all of the stock plastic rod holders with metal flush mount rod holders.
  • I installed 2 additional rod holders in the gunnels (1 port & 1 Starboard)
  • It has a Garmin 74dv GPS/Chart plotter/Fish finder and a thru hull transducer.
  • I have gunnel mount outriggers available for the boat

Now before I get to the only 2 quotes I could obtain, let me break down my initial costs when I purchased the boat 9 months ago (Sept. 2015).
  • Boat $31,999
  • Extended warranty $2,500
  • FL 6% sales tax on boat & warranty was $2,069
  • Garmin & Transducer installed was $1,500

I expected there to be significant depreciation due to the short term in which I am trying to re-sell. I expected there to be difficulty marketing and lack of interest in the boat. I expected the lack of knowledge about the boat from the dealers.

I did not expect there to be complete refusal to even consider the boat for trade-in nor did I expect the market value/lack of interest to be below $20,000.

I knew it was going to be bad, but I had no idea how bad it truly is. This was the worst financial decision I've made...hopefully it will be the last.

NOTE: This has been my experience only and I am not saying it will be everyones experience. Others may very well and probably will fair better than I. Time will tell.

I actually am very interested in acquiring a 2016 FSH 190. I have determined it would be a great boat for my wife and I. We'll use it mainly for trips out to the barrier islands and a little fishing. I've owned everything from Action Craft 21s to Venture 34s for Middle Ground trips. Anyway, I like the idea of jet propulsion.

I also appreciate your honesty. Not 1 hour ago I sent an email to a dealer with a new 2016 in stock that caught my eye. It has some dealer customization that brings the sticker to about 34k. Your post is giving me a lot to think about as far as buying new.

Does the extended warranty have an hours cap on it, or is it just a full 5 years?

Being new to jet propulsion, I am trying to put into context 150 hours. Anyone have an opinion as to how many hours you can expect from the life of the engine? As for the outriggers, would definitely not need those. I definitely like that your ducer is thru hull.

I'm in New Port Richey so it's a pretty good hike from you.

I just signed up to this forum so that I could respond to your post. If this forum has PM feel free to message me and I'll reply with my phone number and we can talk. PLMK asking price. I see what your being offered and obviously you're looking for more than that.

Thanks.

Unfortunately this is what happens to a "new" and unproven product. Similar values were seen back in 2003-2004 with the sx230 line.

So I'll take that as a solid "NO" to the 15K offer then? o_O

I figured your reply would be as such as most of your posts I've read are the same, thanks for the laugh. o_O

Maybe.... its Karma o_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

1st..lets address the facts and leave your assumptions and inferences aside. (Did you even read the post?)

  • I'm mad at the FSH comment: Where and when did I say anything regarding that? I stated the facts of the situation only, you inferred the mad comment.
  • Replacing plastic rod holders with metal ones could be negative...is that even a serious comment?
  • Outriggers are overkill statement: I stated they were available but did not need to be sold with the boat.
  • Items I installed were for me alone comment: Again, have you read the thread? I clearly stated I did not expect to gain value or even recoup value from them.
  • Chartplotter/Fishfinder/GPS for me alone: What boat (other than a aluminum johnboat/bassboat) does not have one? That is on par with the metal rod holder comment.

Thanks for explaining the basics of personal property depreciation once no longer new and becomes used. I've never owned a car or boat before so I was unaware that it would be worth less the moment I signed the purchase agreement...o_O

I also didn't know that amount of use would factor into the value...I assumed all boats regardless of age or amount of hours of use were worth about the same amount.o_O

I never knew the games played and tactics used during financial negotiations and unfortunatly I wore my emotions on my sleeve while communicating with the brokers and my "desperation" was clearly transparent.o_O

This is a jet boat forum heavy on the side of Yamaha boat owners so I understand that there are a multitude of Yamaha apologists that feel their products are above reproach and perfect in every way. No brand for any product can actually hold those standards but some will never admit the shortfalls even when it is clear.

My post contained facts without emotion or judgement until the 2nd to last sentence when I stated it was the worst financial decision I have ever made. I did not comment negatively about Yamaha, the FSH, the dealers/brokers or any other person/product. I stated the events as they happened. What you or anyone else reads into it or implies from it is not on me. You, and whomever may also do that, have only yourselves to look at as the source of those opinions.

150 Hours is definitely NOT a lot of hours in general for these types of engines.

All kidding and ball busting aside, the 1812CC high-output Yamaha marine engine is one of the reasons I bought our boat. Its as solid as they make em!

I'm extremely jealous of the 150 hours in less than a year. Took 3 years to reach 75ish .. One day i hope i'll be clocking hours like that.

Ditto, I am at 44 after 2 seasons. . . . and I have a house on the water. Must be doing something wrong.

lol :winkingthumbsup"

Fish (trolling) every weekend 6am till 1pm saturdays and sometimes sundays also...hours will accumulate quickly

I agree there is a difference between inshore usage and offshore fishing usage if someone fishes offshore a lot the motor is running the whole time most people who fish or lake ride they run a bit and turn the engine off but offshore that is not the case. your better to troll then anchor offshore its safer and in most cases better for the fishing if your going after bigger game fish. This is why its not uncommon to see offshore fishing boats averaging over 100 hours a year not because they are out more days then the average lake boater they just run the engine the entire time they are out it never gets turned off.

My SX190 halved in value after 12 months and only 50 hrs, if I would of kept it longer I didn't see it depreciating much more but I see the 24's hold on to their value better.
It is a big hit but I'd imagine you'd get more selling privately, especially with the transferable warranty, dealers will always win.

@ClemsonTiger , real sorry to see you might sell since you really pushed that boat to great limits and I liked to see all of the fish that you caught. I always wondered how you did this on the 19' and single jet since for fishing, I now see boats with 4 engines??? I hope you stay on the forum when you get your new (used!) boat with a Yamaha outboard(s).

Post some more fish!

The depreciation on Yamaha jets is an interesting phenomenom. I think the newer 19's and FSH are competing with slightly used, larger and dual engine boats which makes the current price point a challenge. Thanks for sharing your post since I think it is very informative

@ClemsonTigerThe depreciation on Yamaha jets is an interesting phenomenom.

I have been researching prices for 2014 AR240HO's with less then 50 hours like mine. . . . . and I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised with how well it retained value. I'm fairly certain the MSRP spike in the 15's and then 16's is helping this. While I was somewhat apprehensive about buying the "last model year", in this case it appears to have worked out quite well.

Sadly I have found out first hand that 1st model year purchases are always a major gamble both financially and mechanically as I outlined here:
