2018 Yamaha 242 LSE Port Engine will not start unless I bypass the starter solenoid by connecting the two leads with a pair of plyers. Does this mean the solenoid is bad? If I take a pair of pliers and connect to two prongs the engine turns over and starts. Or could it be a corrosion issue somewhere? I have been checking all the grounds both ends and hot leads as well no luck. The starboard engine does seem flaky as well. Sometimes I press the start button nothing other times I press it and no problem it starts right up.

Many thanks ahead of time for all your help and any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Replacing the start solenoid fixed the issue. Many thanks for confirming my diagnosis.
How hard was that? Last solenoid I did was on a merc 3.0 I/O motor. The nuts that held the bolts in were IN the engine block for some reason, so great care had to be taken not to let them drop off, or you were boned.

It took me about 15 minutes. Turn the power off, and disconnect all cables from the existing solenoid. Disconnect two bolts holding the solenoid to the back wall. Swap the bracket from the old to the new solenoid. Mount it back to the back wall, reconnect the cables, and turn the power back on.

Glad to read it's simple!

Glad you got your problem fixed and thanks for closing the loop.

I was going to ask if you had checked this fuse.
