Thank you! much appreciated. My dealer is Dewildt Marine in Hamilton ON, Canada. I will have them reach out to the Chatlee Service Manager.
Was Dewildt able to figure out a solution to the problems with your boat? I am still waiting for them to come up with some plan of action to get this resolved. I figured I would reach out considering we are dealing with same issues and dealer. Just different locations. I would love to hear how they are accommodating you. Thanks

Update: My boat has been at the Dealer all week (second time in a month!). The latest is that apparently Yamaha is aware of the problems and the growing number of new owners that are having this issue. I'm told that the boat is throwing off a number of error codes and that a Yamaha "Specialist" is working through them. Notwithstanding the time, frustration and costs etc to keep taking this boat back to the dealer and that my family has been losing the Summer without a boat (we sold our old boat when we purchased this new 212xd)- my main concern is that there are obviously some serious computer/software/communication issues going on. This boat appears to be a "Lemon" and could actually be dangerous- One owner that I spoke to on this forum almost crashed into a concrete wall and we almost crashed into the rocks when one engine didn't work. If it gets fixed - I am worried it will continue to have issues in the years to come? I'm hoping Yamaha will address these concerns. The dealer appears to be trying to fix it - but it has been crickets lately from Yamaha Canada. ( I did call and get a quick response from a customer service rep but then I emailed the Yamaha Canada Service manager- it took a week for him to respond to my email after a reminder- and its been another week since he said he would get back to me once he heard back from the "technical" rep ). I'm still hopeful that it gets fixed quickly and will post the results. Otherwise I will be pursuing a refund. JustD- if you like -you can contact me at primerobill@yahoo.ca and give me your contact info- would love to discuss next steps with you.

I have a brand new 2021 212XD and am having the same issues. Just yesterday, we had a dangerous incident that could have ended badly but luckily no one was hurt.
Brief history. I purchased the boat this spring and put it in the water in May. Within the first 10 hours, I experienced the same issues described in this post. My drive paddles would occasionally not work or only the starboard engine would engage. I was able to temporarily solve the problem with a hard reset of turning off the batteries. I also got some of the warning messages mentioned here. I took the boat to local dealer. They had heard of this issue once before and it was caused by a loose wiring harness from what they told me. Anyway, they kept my boat for 2 weeks, could not recreate the problem or find any loose wiring harnesses and returned it to me (they also completed the 10 hr service). Over the next month, the problem happened occasionally - enough to be irritating, but not enough to make me want to put it back in the shop for weeks. Until yesterday.....
We took another family out on the lake for the day. Upon returning home, I was docking the boat with the paddles. Driving straight into our single slip dock (double decker aluminum dock). I was going very slow and half way into the slip just coasting and looking for the rope - suddenly the right engine engaged fully. My hands were not touching the paddles at all. We shot forward, hit the front of the slip and the front of the boat came out of the water, riding up on the dock. By the time I could shut down both engines, the boat was about 1/3 out of the water and the bow struck the stairs going up to the top deck. Once the engines shut down, the boat slid back into the water and out of the slip. Thankfully no one was hurt, though everyone was fairly shaken. My dock took some damage. My fiberglass on the top of the bow is damaged and the hull is scuffed. No leaks. Getting it towed to the ramp tomorrow, and on a trailer so I can take it back to the dealer. All in all, I am thankful that it was not worse, but I no longer trust that boat.
Any advice on how to approach this? Call Yamaha? Just deal with the local dealer?

Man you are lucky. I had this issue just one time. Did a reset and all is ok. That was prob 60hrs ago. Have almost 100 hrs on the boat and the system has performed flawlessly except for that one instance leaving my slip. I do always check everything is good and working before i untie now. It never happened to me while i was out and underway when all was working fine then suddenly have a problem. Mine did it right from boot up. Mine was also just shift related. Never throttle.

Has anyone found a solution to this issue with one engine working and the other staying Neutral

I have less than 10 hours on my 212x and this is driving me crazy and not enjoying this boat with having to reset the system 3 or 4 times before I can get both engines to go into the forward gear

No solution to this problem as of now, my boat is at the dealer and Yamaha is working with the dealer to fix and resolve this issue, but I am to the point that I do not trust the boat, it is unsafe and I do not wanna take any chances of somebody getting hurt. I am gonna get a hold of the dealer and insist for my money back. This is not a safe boat.

I was told today that Yamaha does not know how to fix the problem yet - you may find the reset option gets worse over time (mine is around 10+ hours) - I could not reset at all and my Starboard engine would not go into forward. (or sometimes it would start in Forward - while throttle in neutral).

Last weekend I went and bought a 2021 212XD, and the second time on the water with 4 hours in the motors the port side motor wouldn’t go forward or backwards, doesn’t rev up. The paddles on the steering wheel doesn’t work when it’s in that mode. The starboard side motor works though. I’ve tried everything I know of, unplugging the battery terminals and hooking them back up and the same thing is still happening. Sounds like I’m not the only one either. If anyone gets this fixed please let me know what the problem is and who to get a hold of to get it fixed.

Geez Louise!

Just reading this, makes my head spin.

...and I thought I had it rough with my 2016 Connext reading battery voltages incorrectly and DVR charging issues... Fixed by @Mainah.

First thing I would do would be investing in a good lanyard system albeit the mechanical one is probably the best option under the circumstances, adding a wireless to this mess is probably not a good idea... The thought of experiencing an unintended acceleration in a crowded marina...

what a f$%^ing nightmare does Yamaha Boats have on their hands. Unfortunately that's the kind of thing that's bound to happen after how long have they been ignoring calls to tighten up their QC shitshow??!!

Getting a call from my dealer today and mentioned they know the exact problem and fixed it in the past

Mentioned it has something to do with the gate and mentioned when starting the boat back up make sure the steering wheel is straight so there is no stress and it should start up. I will be trying this next time I get out to see if that trick works

That was related to the older e-series boats, however I hope it's a fix!

Got mine back Wednesday for the second time at the shop, took it out Saturday all day. I’ve got 10 hrs on the boat. I got a check engine alarm 4 different times throughout the day. Each time after shutting off the Engines. The first two times I lost the throttle on the port side, the other 2 times it was the starboard side. Luckily it was able to reset after shutting off the batteries, but sometimes I had to do this several times before I got both engines back. It’s at the shop for the third time. Really frustrated with this boat. Anyone know what options we have for returning these boats to the dealership or are we just fucked until Yamaha figures out what the issue is?

Yamaha is aware of the issue but no solution yet. My dealer has a few boats in with this issue in the shop and aren’t accepting bad information from Yamaha cause this is a inconvenience to their clients and want it fixed so we don’t have to make the trip multiple times

taking My boat out this weekend and going to try some remedies to resolve this temporary so I can still enjoy then if not looks like it’s going into winter storage early until we find a solution

one thing I’m going to try is making sure when starting the engines the steering wheel is straight I’m hearing this relieves tension and helps this issue I’ll let you all know if it works

With Yamaha's track record with quality in the last few years, who's the genius that decided that all electronic controls would be a good idea? Most electronics have a wide range of voltages that they can operate at low and high, so why is Yamaha having issues with battery voltages on their boats? If the boat was engineered correctly the only thing that should be causing issues is a dead battery. This past weekend I met a guy with a brand new 212X on his maiden voyage and he had all kinds of issues related to battery voltage.
Yamaha wants to play with the big boys by having all of these pretty electronics and over pricing their boats and they are failing. They should go back to when they made a quality and AFFORDABLE boat.

Hi Everyone, I have a 2021 212XE and had similar issues with my port engine rpm. Here is what I received from my dealer once they connected with Yamaha, and I haven’t had an issue since.

1 - make sure the boat is never turned off with the throttles not in neutral...this will directly cause the issue that you are having because the gates are not in the correct position when the boat is turned on after the shut down, so they don't calibrate correctly... the boat is basically doing a calibration on certain items each time its started.

#2-make sure to turn the key switch off, wait about 45 seconds for the connext screen to shut down and then turn your battery switch off, don't ever turn the battery switch off while anything is still on the connext screen ...its like yanking the cord from your computer while its on... the system needs to be properly shut down so that when its restarted - it can do its normal calibrations...

The Yamaha engineers are idiots. Not having the throttles in neutral when turning the boat off should not keep the boat from operating properly. Is this spelled out in the owner's manual? The software should be fool proof and every situation should have been tested before release. You should not have a shut down procedure on a boat.

there isnt a shut down procedure. i can shut down my boat any way i want and never have an issue. the issue with all these boats is something other than what the last person posted.
