I looked at a 2019 AR190 for sale and was interested in potentially buying it until I found out it had not been winterized. The boat over all was solid and it good shape, couldn’t find a scratch on it. It has 30 hours on it and it did have the 10 hour service done by a dealer. It started right up and sounded fine, but couldn’t let it run for very long because it was at a storage unit and I didn’t have water access at the moment. Whats everyone’s opinion on the non winterizing? I know these boats dont hold a lot of water in them for potential freezing but wanted to hear some other opinions thanks

The extent of winterizing these boats is to flush the engine(s), rapp the motor(s) three times to 4K rpm which blows the water out of the water locks. If it is going to be outside and not run for months then fogging the intake, fogging the cylinders would be in order, as well as plugging the drains.

Did you get any water out of the exhaust when you ran it? If the owner rapped the engine a few times after the last water run then it should be fine. Is the boat stored outside or inside? Cover on it?

Boat is in KY we have had a few nights in the 20s, I did not notice any water out of the exhaust boat was stored at storage facility with cover on but not climate controlled.

So it was inside then?

If you didn’t notice water on the ground when you ran it chances are the owner blew out the water locks... if that is the case the boat is probably in as good of shape as it looks... these boats are designed to drain down so that there isn’t any captured water. The only thing the manuals talk about for long term storage is taking you the batteries, and fogging the engine, noting about freeze protection. Capt Leon did a great winterizing NY style in one of his U tube vids...

It will be fine. Didn’t get cold enough in a building to freeze anything hard enough to do any damage. I’m in N Illinois and where my boat sleeps is not heated and still not down to freezing temps.

I'm right across the river from Louisville, in Georgetown, IN. I winterize my AR190 but revving it a few times in the driveway, and putting it in the garage. Jet drive/engine combo doesn't hold enough water to be concerned about. Even for a hard freeze for a few days that we get every now and then. My garage has been as cold as 10degF for multiple nights in previous winters. This winter has been pretty mild, so I wouldn't sweat it.

Honestly if the rest of the boat looks good I wouldn't worry about it. These aren't your fathers stern drives :D :D
