Bimini 2018

I recently saw a post in a sailing group about how an update of Garmin software led to a ~$150 necessity to purchase new maps. I believe this involved the mobile app.

Yes all maps in the blue chart app Garmin kind of screwed A bunch of people with this. With the new ActiveCaptain app and use the Maps from your chart plotter.

Does it pull info with out being prompted to ?
You have to activate the WiFi in the chart plotter, connect the phone, and turn on the option in the app to upload the weather (with BlueChart, haven't tried ActiveCaptain). At least that is how it used to work. If it is with XM it automatically pulls data continuously.

I just updated to the new firmware on the Garmin GPSMAP and had no problem with the map (which also introduced the new Active Captain menu into the chart plotter itself) - My map was 2017 though, perhaps its a firmware conflict with older maps?

This is what I was remembering. I am not a Garmin user so I have no understanding of the relevance beyond the fact that I am a Navionics user and know that less competition can not be a good thing.

I think I understand now Bruce... it seems to me that they are talking about being able to view the maps on the phone. This is my experience as well, unless the app/phone is connected to the chart plotter or gps, the app will not display the full map on the app. The same goes for their desktop software Garmin HomePort, unless you connect your device to the computer it will not display the full map. When it recognizes that you own a valid map/device it displays the full map. If you are just using the phone, then Navionics is probably a better choice. I think these Garmin apps are built to support Garmin hardware of which they do a good job, I don't think they are that great for primary navigation on the phone. just a thought...

I need to actually pay for navionics once and play with it. Will i be able to upload to my devices premade points like a list of hot spots?

Yes you can place markers and then select them while setting up a route

What about multiple devices? 2 phones and a tablet is what i am thinking

Ladies and Gentlemen,

@Andy S and I are happy to announce that the dates have been posted for both 2018 Bimini Flings.

@Andy S will be leading 2018 Bimini June trip (June 25th - June 30th)

@Bruce will be leading JetBoaters.net Bimini Fling July 9th to 14th 2018

We are working together, with the support of many others, to make 2018 the biggest and best year for JetBoaters to enjoy Bimini. There will be great people and great experiences in both groups. My only regret is that I can not attend both. We hope that providing two date ranges will allow more families to attend.

I would encourage everyone to determine the best dates and move forward with your reservations at Bimini Sands as it is the only part of the trip that is likely to sell out.

Fantastic. Thank you, @Bruce for your hard work. A lot of hard work.

I might, just might, be actually able to swing it this year again!! If @Andy S will have me, that is!

I'm currently giving myself about 50% chance of going. Need to still resolve some work conflicts but (surprisingly) Kate has given her preliminary approval!!!

Okay, guys - please help me here, when she says: "Fine, do what you want" - that's approval, correct?
I interpret it as an approval.

It might be a stretch but I think we can let you join us for the June dates. ;)

Ask @robert843 what it has cost him when his wife said it was ok for him to go the Exuma trip without her.
