Is that 8' bed or 6' 3/4"? Looks like SWB bed so that's 15k max tow with proper hitch (check to make sure you don't have a class III hitch like many come with).

Looks sharp.

I know you are only towing a 6k lb boat, but don’t kid yourself about the towing capacity with your 6 inch lift and larger diameter wheel/tire combo. Both completely change the geometry and decrease your ability to accelerate, brake, and control a heavy load. That said, your Yamaha will be well within that truck’s limits.

Spending the money he spent I am sure he bagged the rear end to eat any sag. I am 99% sure all new 3/4 tons and above have class 4 or class 5 hitches. Even the “ Tow ratings on the new 1/2 tons are up there.

now you just need a bigger garage lol

Tow ratings on stock trucks can be quite high, correct. Preventing sag and tow capacity are very peripherally rated concepts. Yes, his headlights won’t aim to the stars, but his COG is still way off and his ability to control any load even remotely near the STOCK capacity will be drastically reduced. Again, not an issue for a Yamaha boat puller, but certainly one if he buys a big RV or hauls other heavy loads. It’s just physics...

You'd be surprised how many come with Class III, my fathers F250 included.

Man that’s a sweet looking ride! Who cares what it rides like when you look that flipping sweet!

Let’s just agree now to not go down this “ Tow rating/pay load squabble”, that’s what towing and Rv forums are for. I am sure he knows what his ratings are, if not I hope he looks for insight, he will find lots of helpful info in the towing section from the guys who tow with Small SUV”s ROFL. Just teasing.

Ahh, sorry since 2014 I’ve only really looked at a few chevys and rams. Mainly a Ram guy now due to pricing. I read an article somewhere about hitches and I thought due to all the new high tow ratings manufactures where going to class 4 and up. Silly internet.. miss lead me again lol

It's mainly a marketing game they all play. They post these massive numbers and tow ratings on their commercials yet equip a lot of them with inadequate hitches to achieve said numbers, even when you spec for the "tow package". They like the wow factor you see on some commercials towing a freaking space shuttle or massively long tree that's like 4 stories tall lol. Ford is no different as I found with my F150 and fathers F250 tow rating vs OE equipped hitches and tow package. Hopefully his came with a nice Class IV but if not I think he can easily splurge for a nice Curt. That front bumper is sweet! I would love to have a 3/4 ton 4x4 diesel for just towing needs. Couldn't live with it as a daily for my long commute but would love it for those big, long ass hills and slick boat ramps.

IDK.
I think it is okay to comment on tow ratings - in a tow vehicle thread.
I wonder if those "tow ratings" have anything to do with reality given lift/suspension mods (no matter the hitch ratings).

@Commander50 you’re are a lawyer, maybe you can elaborate. I never understood those issues, I know the insurance will pay for damages no matter who did what within the coverage limits but civil liability can exceed any kind of coverage limit.

I'm with you here. It's a Tow Vehicle Thread. Where else would we discuss it?

I've "multi-quoted" your post below. Not to pick it apart, but to opine with some sense of clarity of thought. You have many good thoughts.

I wonder if those "tow ratings" have anything to do with reality given lift/suspension mods (no matter the hitch ratings).

Looking at SAE J2807 (here's a good article on it's components and what it is) and comparing that to the mods on @Commander50 's new ride, and I doubt it would retain the factory rating. By how much it would be reduced, it's hard to say. Biggest concern is braking and maintaining understeer in a fully loaded scenario. I suspect the 37in tires, and higher COG from the lift aren't doing it any favors, however a well engineered system could potentiall combat those issues (sway bar tuning alone could retain that understeer while loaded criteria).

I never really look much at the liability myself. Things have to go terribly awry, and there would have to be gross negligence (like my other thread where the guy is towing a semi trailer with a 2500) for there to be a case.....I think....I'm no lawyer, just venting a thought process. I suspect something like towing at/near the limit with aftermarket equipment wouldn't be gross negligence, and the potential overload would have to be the root cause of the accident to really get bad I would think......Again, I'm not super knowledgable here.

I would like to hear from some form of personal injury, or other such liability attorney on their take on it.........I suspect it might even get more complicated due to state level regulations.

Idk I think she looks sweet!!! Those new 6.7 Power Stroke diesels are locomotives too. The only downside I can see are drive thrus and parking garages.

Hadn't even thought of parking garages. My stock height 1500 can barely fit in some of the ones around here (I've touched a beam with my hand through the sunroof while entering a garage a number of times). No way this would fit in there.

I frequent the O’Hare daily parking garage, it’s marked 6’6” but I always pucker in the stock F150. I recently switched to 285/70R17 from the factory 245’s. My math says it should be about 3/4” taller. She still fits but its scary!

I agree, a lot of people don't realize that a truck with taller tires is like changing you rear end gear.

Reduces braking force proportionally as well. The larger danger IMO.

That’s just the nature of the beast, it’s hard to stop something that looks so good
