I installed a JL IB 10” under my starboard rear seat/storage and when I turn it up over 80%ish the entire sub and wall shake from the bass. It seems a little excessive and I’m concerned that I will get cracks forming in the gel coat. Is this anything to worry about?
I bought a spacer ring and sandwiched it on the inside of the wall to help spread out the load some but now I’m wondering if I need a larger slab the cover more surface area of the wall inside.
On a side note, my amp doesn’t have a “gain” dial, there’s three separate silver screws that say input “sensitivity.” I’m assuming they are gain? It’s a JL 700/5
I’ll have to start turning them to see where everything is set at for starters but it sounds pretty good currently.

Correct on the JL input sensitivity. Cant remeber how and why the JL rep said it wasnt "gain" when we were at factory training a couple years ago but it will make your sub louder turning it to the right.

Cant offer much advice on the sub shaking the glass. Looks like theres not much more room for a bigger ring on the backside. If it does crack the gel whites an easy color to match ?

Thanks for confirming that.

I think you'll be ok, unless you decide to blow the thing up and crank it to 12. I haven't heard of anyone having issues with fiberglass cracking due to a sub (at least not yet).

I've been thinking that when I install my sub i want to use an hpde cutting board to reinforce the fiberglass behind it.

Good idea. I figured a spacer ring would help and it being close to the corner but the fiberglass is thin enough that the bass sends waves down the length of the storage wall. It’s not bad until it’s turned up quite a bit though also. I may need to switch to something with more surface area if it shows any stress.
