Yes, the ACR PLB comes with a velcro strap.

No Papa Moose?
No Papa Moose this year. It's a long story, but, I invited him last year based on the assumption that I thought it would be something that he could do and enjoy, which was based on how I remembered him a year earlier. When I picked him up at the airport just before our Bimini departure, I was surprised at how much he had aged and how much mobility he had lost. It was just too hard for him to get into and out of the boat. I'll invite him again once I get a 40 foot boat. All that said, catching his facial expression on video was one of the highlights of my trip. Does that make me a bad son-in-law?

Oh well, I understand. I can't say I know any other people his age that would have attempted such an adventure. Enjoyed chatting with him.

One step closer. Found a badass first aid kit on Amazon along with my quarantine flag. CB radio plotter depth finder and more stuff and on its way. 20170110_194141.jpg

Is that a CB radio to use on the road or a VHF radio to use on the water?

Question.
It looks like the second week of July has the highest probability, but is there a clear lead on the duration? If I recall correctly there was discussion& voting about different durations of the trip.

AND possible 2 weeks total so people can choose a week. However, I am going to assume a lot of it depends on the negotiations.

17 registrants have chosen 5 days, 6 have chosen 5, 1 has chosen 7 and 3 have chosen 10.

My guess is that some of us may end up staying longer after the majority of the group goes home. It would be nice to have as much experience as possible in the initial crossing to Bimini. After a week in Bimini everyone finds the trip home to be easy but the trip there can be shocking for those that have not been before.

I see, so probably the overwhelming major will start at the same day, but there will be different groups coming back.

Just a thought that it would be much less stress launching in Ft. Lauderdale on a weekday because the Harbour Towne marina should not run out of parking like it does on weekends. Also, I expect that Bahia Mar rates are lower on weekdays which would be a benefit to those who plan on staying there the night before the crossing.

@MrMoose, did you have issues with parking at Harbor Towne in 2015? What day did you launch?

In three years of experience I have not had to wait more than 15 minutes to launch. My longest wait was in 2015 when we were launching on the 4th of July weekend.

My schedule is pretty flexible so a weekday launch would work for me but most seem to like the launch on Sunday, go to Bimini on Monday, return on Saturday plan so they can fit the trip into one week of vacation.

@Bruce, I seem to recall folks posting that they had trouble launching in 2015. Last year, there were a few of us that were held up at the entrance of Harbour Towne. We had to wait until people left. Once we were let in, we had to wait more. I think that it took a good hour. It wasn't a pleasant experience because you're waiting for someone to decide that they're done for the day and want to pull their boat out and leave the marina. It could be a 15 minute wait, or it could be hours; there's no way to know. I assume that things wouldn't be as busy on a weekday.

Fyi - harbour towne ramp is full, security said in the morning they should plenty of parking. I was one of the last boats to launch, I will be at the Bahia Mar in about 30 minutes.

This was @Andy S quote from that 2015 launch. I remember several other having issues that day trying launch as well. When I got there I was able to launch but I took the last parking spot at that time. I cant recall who but there were at least two people who where still waiting for parking at like 10pm there the day before departure. I would avoid those July weeks unless its two weeks after the fourth or go in June but that's just me I'm sure either way you guys will have a blast. Still disappointed in @MrMoose he told me he wasn't going if I would have known I wouldn't have made other plans during that time frame lol. Come on man I thought Calgary was calling!

Moving to Calgary at the end of May. Don't have a house in Calgary yet. Won't have a tow vehicle because I'll be selling my Durango before moving (2WD R/T not good for Calgary). Our belongings will probably be in transit to Calgary. ... Not the best time to go to Bimini, but that's the plan for now.
