Have a brand new 2021 SX210 with now 5 hours on it and have noticed the carpets in ALL storage areas are wet. The boat is inside a marina at an in-and-out service so its not from any rain and the boat is covered. Boat has not taken on any water. What could cause this? Not normal correct? Is there drains that could be clogged and where would these be? Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA

Wet carpet usually indicates it was left out in the rain with the cover off. Your cupholders "drain" into the carpeted area. I would ask your marina "if it was stored inside, how did it get wet?" It's possible it got caught out in a short storm and they either didn't remember or lied about it.

I would get all the seats flipped up so it can air out.

I can’t speak to the anchor locker drain issue, but I will echo @anmut about the cup holders. About half of them in my boat had drain tubes, but the other half didn’t and they simply drained all over the interior carpets. Try and confirm that yours have drain tubes on them. For those that don’t, either add your own tubes or simply plug up the holes in the bottom of the cup holders.

Second suggestion I have is to ask whether you have the Yamaha mooring cover, or a snap-on type? I have no problems with the mooring cover, but my friend with the snap on cover has leak points where rain water gets in and leaves him with damp carpets.

So from your info, I interpret "all storage areas" to mean port AND starboard BOW storage areas, in addition to stern storage areas behind the captain's chair. Is this correct?

If so, what area is MORE noticeable, bow or stern, and then port or starboard?

You could be chasing all over for the reason and solutions, so it'll be helpful to narrow down the problem and go from there.

Off the top of my head, I agree with @anmut about the possibility of it being rained on, and also @buckbuck with a potential anchor locker drain fitting.

None of this is worth taking the boat to the dealer to troubleshoot at this point, IMO, and it might turn out to be something simple to address yourself. Give us a better idea of what the issue is so we aren't overwhelming you with solutions that might not be needed, or even necessarily apply to your issue.

Bow for sure is more noticeable. Both Port and Stern.

Rain isnt the culprit as it was in a garage and then only been out for a week and we have had 0 rain.

The only overhead I could think of is the rack storage in the in and out service from a boat above.

That being said there is a cover on it and not a snap cover.

Hope that helps somewhat...

Thank for the input, but it wasnt from rain as we have not had any and the boat went from garage to lake to indoor rack storage. Could have been boat from above though so wont rule out that... but rest of boat seemed dry and cover was too... (days later)

ok I will check the cup holders out. Thanks for the incite.

Rain would not have been issue as there has been no rain and it was not outside. Cover is a mooring cover and not snap-on

Another option that I always tend to overlook when I find moisture: What were the kids doing that day? Was there a water fight around the boat? A little toddler onboard that might have dumped a bucked of water somewhere? Toys got put away wet? Floating loungers / tubes / etc. that got put away wet?

Yamaha's have a "self bailing deck" so any water that got into carpeted compartments got in there directly, usually through open seats, wet gear, cupholders or... yeah, that's about it.

Anchor locker is possible, but that "drainage issue" causes water to go between the fiberglass and into the back, not into the carpeted area. If you have kids, I'd suggest waterboarding them until you get the truth... :)

#1 is to get everything dried out - I would get some fans running ASAP to make sure you don't get mildew.

Thanks for the reply.

no kids/toys or anything just a cruise around as the boat is brand new and still getting accustom to things.

I should have been more specific, but its only wet under the storage areas (where carpets are), not anything in the main areas.

I could see it going in between fiberglass, but it seems to be more wet in the bow storage areas.

Since it’s so new, did you happen to notice if the carpet was wet the day you bought it? Just wondering if got washed down or something as a courtesy during the purchase process.

It has been in my garage for a few months - first few times on the water now. Nothing was wet 2 weeks ago as loaded everything in supply wise into storage and vacuumed out any new fiberglass shredded pieces from the factory. Bone Dry.

That's a good point. If I was the OP, I'd dry out completely, then dry it some more. Then run it and see if you get wet carpets again.

You've inspected the hull for possible punctures? Another few options to look at: loose fittings on speakers/grab rail/cleats/horn/gps puck?

Have not, and will have to check all these areas you suggested.

While you’re at it, check to see if any screws are missing or loose from the rub rail. Not sure if that water would drain onto the carpet though. It may go straight to the hull. But, worth looking into.

Careful with the GPS puck, if you break that mount, you have to buy the whole thing... (eyeroll)
