Replacing speakers & adding an amp

@CraigAR how was the sound on the water was it now easily heard in the drivers seat underway?
Hell yeah! Love it, very happy. The entire cockpit sounds so full. Sitting or standing the 6.5's down low sound great. I might have to take into consideration that the icon 8's mounted on the front tower bar may also be filling in the sound.

That’s awesome that everything turned out like you wanted it to. Now that it’s been on the water, do you feel the need for a sub? And if not in need, Will you be adding one being that you enjoy the bass?

At this point I don't think I'll be adding a sub but I will be adding more speakers so that may change. I love the way the system sounds except for the front bow area. Thinking about cutting in some speakers down low to fill that area in. Now remember, I'm pushing all wet sounds and they sound deep to begin with and I also have foam acoustic pieces around each speaker.

Looking forward to seeing what you do next so please keep us informed... an with pictures....lol.
So far I have learned a lot from you on what can be done as well as what what works, thanks for that.
I’m about to get my project going this coming January as my boat is new, completely stock, and in need of a serious upgrade.... need I say that it will be looking identical to yours....lol

totally forgot about this thread and my boat is in storage, so here's what I took in terms of pics and it's minimal at best. My towers were a challenge in that I'm a tall guy, there's significant traffic to my transom and bimini... which meant placing the speakers had to be good for everything. Where the REV8s are now, is absolutely perfect! Out of the way with optimal 70-80ft coverage/direction - what more could I ask for! The REV Series are INSANE!!! The 650s fit perfect all the way around and look at that sub - couldn't have been a better fit for that area. The sound is incredible. The deal I got on everything with me catching Wetsounds and Yamaha Sports Plaza at the most opportune time had me beyond giddy when we were doing the 10hr tune.

The EQ is perfectly out of the way and very accessible with the MIC unit in the phone holder just above it. I was thinking about buying one of those trucker mic suspenders but the jury is still out on that one.

I'll post pics of the AMP and wiring behind the helm once I have my baby back...it'll be a part anyway with my Ridesteady and Helix 7 install.

I see you decided to install a sub...
She is looking awesome! Thanks for the update.

I'm about ready to start my upgrade. Just went out to the L.A. boat show here in Pomona, Ca. And was able to Check out the Wetsounds. I too will be going with them on my boat.
As for the placement of your rev8s, could you have gone with 10's if you wanted too? I'm not too tall, 6'2".
Looking forward to the pictures of your amp placement.

I was referring to height and traffic to accentuate the placement being outside the traffic area - I'm 6'6 and I hit my head enough w/o doing it in my happy place. The 8s have fantastic sound at a distance and can easily be heard over the engines while boarding. I always say go big or go home. If I didn't get such a great deal on the 8s ($100 new in box and not off the back of a truck), I would have gone with the 10s - for sure! These speakers will blow you and everyone on the lake away providing you throw enough clean power at them.

These are what dreams are made of LOL

If you're going with a WetWire setup, I got the 6 Conductor Wire (12 Gauge Speaker Wire w/22 Gauge RGB Wire) from ABT.com for $1.40ft = smoked everywhere else I looked, which is everywhere!

Keep an eye on the Wetsounds webstore (clearance/specials), Crutchfield, Yamaha Sports plaza (watch their shipping), ABT and Pacific stereo. It's hard to come by WS deals but they are out there.

EDIT: GET A SUB! The 650s have great lows but man...do it! Feeling and hearing your favorite tune is a must :)

Thanks for the heads up! I will definitely be looking for specials. I will take what I can get....lol

As you can see the amp is behind the steering wheel so the screws are in dead space. I'll be adding another pair of xs-650's along with the wet sounds htx-6 amp and a set of WS icon 8's in a couple weeks.

Hi...I am in the process of adding g an amp and new speakers and wires to my boat. In your diagram, if you want to get to the helm area you just pull the 2 pins closest to door so that the entire boards opens to the starboard side correct? I guess you have the pins mounted down so the can be removed easier?

Thanks!

I just have 4 stainless hinges and if I need to access back there I just unscrew either side and swing it open.

Got it...you just unscrew the hinge!
