Show Us Your Wake! (surfing mods comparo)

My suggestion, try nothing in ther ski locker SMS fill the bag on the transom only. Then move both feet an inch or two closer to the front of the board. If you have video you can post it would give us a better idea as to the major hangups are.

Yep- I was thinking after I gave up yesterday I should have tried that..Not giving up yet. I think if I only had to fill one bag it might be more tolerable.

Appreciate the support...trying not to get too frustrated!

The frustration is understandable. Though, I think you're getting closer than you think. What size are your riders?

I was the only one trying to surf- I am 215. I’ll do some more testing this coming weekend.

It sounds like you don't have the gantlin transom bag. It puts the weight where it needs to be.

You've got about 30lbs on me, but if your wake is half decent you should be able to make it happen. Your stance on the board can make a huge difference. Here's where my feet were on the board while doing some small wake testing. The difference being this is the 5'0" version of the Coaster.

In essence a rider needs to find the boards equilibrium; the position where your center between the gas and brake. That position may change forward or back depending in the wake size/push.

On the 5'3" Coaster with my full ballast and Wake Wedge setup my stance is much farther back. You just need to play around with what works for you on your wake.

Then it's a matter of figuring out the speed you can keep up with.

I just realized I'm that guy on the internet trying to give advice you didn't ask for... ?‍♂️

Advice is good! No worries...

We aren’t new to wakesurfing (started with our Moomba Mobius back in 2009), but new to surfing with the jet boat. Note: It took us a while to get our Moomba dialed before the days of suck gates and all.

I have the Yamaha Slingshot and a much shorter (and quicker) Hyperlite board. I was hoping the shorter board would work better on a smaller waves, but it didn’t.

Like I mentioned, I think we had plenty of weight in back, but too much up front which flattened the wave too much.

I’ll report back this coming weekend when I try a different configuration.

We have a monster wave, but some people just don't care to go ropeless.
Case in point my friend Zach (6'), he just likes to slam the wake as hard as he can, the dude is a maniac.
He did this for about an hour today, his first time wake surfing, lol. (in full disclosure he is an active olympic weight lifter)

Who said wake surfing is not therapeutic?

2019 AR195, Thrust Vector Wake, Gantlin Transom Bag, probably 500lbs if passengers.

Using my neighbors Phase 5 board I’m able to go ropeless behind the boat, using my Liquid Force Rocket I’m nowhere near able to get enough speed to go ropeless. He let me borrow his for the weekend, which made me mad because now I’m in the market for a board I can go ropeless on.

slowly getting this beast dialed in. I just want a glassy day tho lol. That wave was about tits high for reference. Camera angles rarely show a wave properly.

The Liquid Force Rocket was my first board. It hardly lives up to its name. Good inexpensive board to get towed with and learn on though.

Now's the time to buy, all my boards are selling at end of season prices currently. Most brands are debuting their 2020 product lines this month for dealers to begin pre-orders. There's still some good surfing left in the year though...

I like the rocket since it's easy to get up on for the inexperienced guests we bring on. It is also very stable so I can surf with our little ones. However I would like something faster to I can continue to go ropeless. It would be nice if I had a dealer or someone nearby to demo a couple different options before pulling the trigger on a new one. Would hate to buy another just to be unhappy with it again.

So does that mean I can ask for my Christmas gifts now that are coming from you ?

I normally ride a 4.4 phase five carbon fiber board that is geared for the pro rider. Ok I'm totally not anywhere close to that level but has been my favorite board up till now. I can say when I rode the Slingshot coaster 5.3 super easy and my back leg was getting cramped because I was trying to put on the breaks. Board was definitely fast. Then I rode a similar board the Slingshot cobra cat 5.0 and it was almost the same but not as long which I liked even more. . . . Now I am itching to try the corba cat carbon fiber 4.8. Think I am having mid-life board crisis like @J-RAD !

where do you live? I may be able to help.

SW Washington near Vancouver

If you can make it near Seattle with your boat I have a new friend who is the NW doomswell rep. He took me out and let me ride all the doomswell boards. If your interested lemme know.

This is accurate of a performance comparison as I can give. Same day, same rider (my wife), moments apart.

LF Rocket 5'0"

Slingshot 5'0" Coaster

She wants me to let you all know she's a way better surfer now... ? and she has improved.

Anyway, I think you can tell there's a little more speed there. I'm just a little bit bias and a bit of a broken record but my recommendation for your wake would be the 5'0" Coaster or the 5'0" Cobra Cat. These boards really do live up to the hype.

We have an older Doomswell and I have rode a few other Dooms. Love their boards definitely a great product as well !
