SX210 Stereo Build Thread

Your build is coming out nicely....are you doing towers as well.....and you decided to go with M770s on the back? Those are supposed to be real nice, what kind of power are you going with?

If I hit the lottery I would love to outfit my AR240 with all JL M series (8.8 & 7.7s) speakers, they look much more robust than the MXs (although they still sound great), but I hear you need to throw a fair amount of power to really make them come alive.

a couple years back I heard a boat running JL speakers, no towers and his boat was so loud I turned off my system even though I had 8" HLCD, 8 6.5 and a ported 15....he MUST have been running all M series speakers because it was LOUD AND CLEAR.

Cant wait to see the final product!

I want to do towers eventually... but that will require me to buy a tower first lol. I am thinking next year tax return will go towards that. Everything I have read from the 6.5MX to M says there isn't that big of difference. A little in clarity, but not in volume. I think it comes down to speaker placement. In the boat, the 6 speakers gets more than loud enough, but can be difficult to hear when on the island (mainly because they are semi-enclosed in the boat). Two weeks ago a fishing boat was playing their music from best I could tell some JLs off a head unit, but they faced outward and were at the top of the center console. It was loud enough to enjoy on the island. The M770s should hold me over for the time being. The PXA bridged will give 150 watts to each one.

I'm thinking of the diff between mx650s and M770s, would love to put 100-150 watts to each one...imagine that would sound bad ass.

I am thinking of going that route next summer. I can come out ahead by selling my 800.8 and replacing it with multiple PXA amplifiers, and I can bridge each one to a MX. This would "on paper" triple my power to each 650. It complicates the install a little, but nothing too bad.

My M770s arrived today... seem to work, a few scuffs but nothing to complain about, I got them for $225 shipped.

Well M770s will NOT fit next to the seats, they are simply to tall. Also important to note there is a cutout there already for 6.5" speakers.

As of now it's put them in the original spot, or get 6.5s and get seats modified.

My PXA300.4 came today as well. @swatski I know you have been mentioned smaller amplifiers.... this thing isn't much bigger than my fire stick remote.

I think most of the boat molds for the newer boats have the cutout ready if you want to add them back there.

If you put 6.5s on the back where would you mount the 770s?

On the swim platform by the grab handle.

You mean down low....I wouldn't have guessed they would even fit down there if they dont fit in the stock locations....any chance you can take a pic of the speaker and how its too tall, no way to trim the hole a little bigger, although i know those M series are bigger than the MX I thought.

I'm not a big fan of putting them down that far, maybe some 50 dollar 5.25's, but not some nice speakers like those....they would get beat up and being down so low wouldn't project out as far.

Can you just swap the 770s in a location of your existing 6.s and then you can still trim the cushion?

Yeah there is plenty of room down there. That is my concern of them getting ruined, I could make covers but still a concern. I already put the cushion back on, but the cutout for 6.5" is almost to the edge of the boat. It is about .75" too tall. Another concern is I have to fill screw holes if I get cushion trimmed.

Swapping out the 7.7s is a possibility, but I am OCD about that stuff and want them all the same lol. I think I am now leaning towards just another pair of MX650s and trim the cushions eventually.

Any way to trim the bottom if its to tight at the bottom of the 6.5 cutout.

Should be able to fill the screws easy, not sure what my guy is doing for that.

I get the OCD, but wouldn't the extra output in the cabin be worth it...you got them for a good deal, might as well use them.

I am happy with the output in the cabin (I rarely even crank it), on the beach is where I was concerned for this part of the project. You may see them for sale in the classifieds shortly lol.

Well had a discussion with the lady. Speakers are going in the original location I planned. We will see how they hold up. She was not going for trimming the cushions.

Well I wish it would have crossed my mind before, but now I am selling the KXMA800.8 and switching the 4 PXA300.4s and 1 PXA5001. I will bridge each PXA to a pair of speakers and pick up a second IB5, and have two run off the 500.1 This will triple my power to the MXs, increase 50watts to the woofer, with the ability to add a second.

So I got some wiring done, not many pictures though. I ran the wires for the swim deck speakers and I also ran another run of 4 gauge power and ground. I was also able to get a start on my swim deck speaker covers. They are cut and glued together. They will require a bit of sanding but a good start ap far.

Amp rack has been built and installed. I left space for one more 300.4, this will be for tower speakers, if that ever happens. Still need to get pictures of that. Ran into some voltage issues again so I ordered a battery charger to keep them fresh, but two deep cycles are on my short list.

Install Looks clean! Just a hunch but maybe you’ve done this type of work before...
