Towing with Tesla Model X

not impressed huh? Ok that’s it I’m getting a 275 just to test the towing! Totally agree. The Y is a crossover basically. I’d Take it over an escape though. I did see a guy with same Y pull an older 21’ out at the same ramp. Not sure if they were lighter last hull style, but he had no issues. I wouldn’t do it because it probably exceeds stated tow limit for the Y. For a real towing challenge you should see me tow my mother in law with the boat!
Pull a 24. Film it. Lol

Any Tesla would do fine on a good ramp, they have the power to pull anything, plus with regen braking and normal brakes, they should stop trailers with no issues.

I think the 24 is above the rated weight for the Y tho. So my Model S may have been totaled, waiting for insurance to confirm. Really eyeing that Y now.

100% it is over weight limit, probably over the X as well.

I have a F 150 Lightning reserved. It's primary role will be to tow the boat. I am not concerned about range as there a dozen lakes I can get to with 33% range.
There has to be more to the story about that guy only getting 58 miles. The TFL guys have thoroughly given their Lightning a thrashing and have got better range.

Personal bias here, but based on the wake boat guys I encounter, they probably drove it like a method hesd that just did some.speed and are on their way to do a line off an underage hookers ass. Essentially I bet they drove it flat out, all throttle, all brakes, all the time.

Either that, or it's just not a very good tow vehicle, and TFL is sponsored so they're not going to shit on it. Ford doesn't just hand out early delivery trucks to anyone, and TFL isn't about to ruin their gravy train ya know? Can't really take too many of those channels too seriously, Joe Raiti is about the only.one I trust at all.

While I agree I would be skeptical of sponsored endorsements, TFL did not receive that truck from Ford. They bought it for over $80k. They are pretty honest of its shortcomings, particularly the range, seat material and some software issues. It is true they receive some of their vehicles free from the manufacturers.
From all reviews I have seen the Lightning is an excellent tow vehicle with the exception of the range. Its ride and handling are referred to as best ever produced. I have determined it will be an great tool for me as range is a lower priority.

That's reasonable. For me, I don't think any currently sold full size truck or suv isn't a good tow vehicle.

The range thing would be a deal breaker for me. No amount of ride comfort would overcome that.

Interesting new data on EV charging and the implications is has.

Yeah, I saw that too.

Summary for those who don't want to read it is that the western US wastes a lot of its solar power generation and EVs should be taking advantage of that capacity by charging during the day (at work) instead of overnight.

Next up: "Companies garnish employee pay checks to pay for EV charging"

I have charged at the office, more to keep the battery warm (happy) than for range and would've been happy to pay for the electrons.

I think it's fair.

Our charging stations at my work require a donation to join the club (apparently.so normals can't try to use them)and then you have to pay for the juice. The idea that ev charging will be free is a fever dream of insanity. Frankly, the charging costs should be high enough to offset the building of the charge stations, and future ones as well.

So now I have to pay higher costs at my work, because the govt said I can't charge at home at night?

Just like fuel right? Sounds fair to me as well.

I think most people are fine paying for energy. I'm kind of unsure where the premise of "free" EV charging even came from. I've not followed it from the beginning, but as long as I have ever considered an EV I assumed I would have to pay for energy.

Or you can use a public access charger. Kinda like how you get energy now.

So find a public charger then uber to my work office? My point is - charging at home is going to be the cheapest and easiest option for most (which is most likely at night) You have offices with 1,000+ employees. Zero Chance they have 1,000 chargers installed. When I was in the office at my old company, the chargers where first come first serve. (about 10 for ~2000 employees) In the public space you can charge more to people sitting in a charging spot.... how would this work in the office? "Sorry guys, gotta drop from this shareholder meeting to move my car."
