We just purchased a 2023 222XD. I’ve been looking at videos on YouTube on setting up the ballast bags for week surfing. There aren’t any real recommendations on how to set up the bags. Looking for recommendations. Also, I see in some forms that there are wake shapers and jetwash deflectors, I know an extra ballast bag will help (fatsack). But do I need wake shapers or jetwash deflectors? I’ve seen some videos where they say jetwash deflectors dangerous. Any recommendations for any of these items would be appreciated

Doesn't the XD's already have the automated wakebooter paddles/tabs? Those suction gate things, if that's what you're referring too, do not work on jet boats. A lot of it is going to be personal preference. However, I used to run 100% surf side, 75% non surf side, and 100% center locker when I had the stock setup. A transom fatsac or leads bags on the transom are an absolute must if you want to be able to drop the rope while surfing. Unless you're like an 80lb kid.

I’d does. But we can’t seem to shape the wake as good as we need
I have about 2700lbs in water/lead ballast in my boat to make it "surf-able". That seems to be the ideal number on these boats, as close to 3k lbs of ballast as possible.
