The lake started freezing around the edges yesterday. And then we woke up to this! Frozen bay, and a layer of snow.

I guess there is always tomorrow... Woke up to it pouring rain outside and a little cool. Mostly sunny tomorrow and winds light and variable... Sounds like a little hooky from work!

headed out to sea at noon...

It's very obvious that only the Southern half of the US even has anything close to boating weather. As this board has died as it does in Winter.

I would have to say I have not seen so much snow and ice covered lakes before Thanksgiving! Amazing start to winter for sure.

I hope to take my first hike on the ice this weekend in search of walleyes! (video at 11)

LOL went boating yesterday... working on boat today :(

Why am I not BOATNIG??

well its 84 here and sunny however the wind is 15-20 outta the east... so not that i can't go out yachting however there were other things to do like put a new front tire and starter on the Harley... the Chinese starters are junk... i have a bit more compression than the standard engine and the starters loose a bearing and tear out the brushes in about 2 years of daily use... so this time spend the coin for a denso starter same as on darn near every Datsun ever made... LOL Harley in their infinite wisdom put the two bolts that hold the starter on inside the primary drive case... front wheel piece o cake... two finger stoppies are back on line... went back to a street oriented Dunlop on the front to run out my Dunlop trail max on the rear... wanted to drop 1 or two teeth on the countershaft sprocket as i don't need 130MPH top end however the sprockets didn't make it today... so Boating on Sunday Funday for sure...

How warm does it get/stay in there?
Honestly, that photo was taken as that Northern was on before we got the heater fired up. If we wanted, we could sit out there in shorts and t-shirts. But with the heater running at half, and the fans on, it is very comfortable in t-shirts for days. Propane is a wonderful thing.

The ice shavings were in the carpet as we had just angered the holes. Once the heater was fired up, it dried up nice. I am so jacked for this season!

Hold on! You can't use that as an example of "ice fishing", can you?

Very nice shanty! It has been warm here until the last couple of days, but that changed quickly and the hard water season will come soon. I did not expect this on the dog run today

Lake effect snow clouds on a cold morning over warmer water.

sorry boys shoving off at noon... 85 and sunny.... might put some sea deck on before I head out...

Is that a Vexilar flasher? If so which model? Do you prefer using a flasher over a fish finder?
I'm assuming you meant graphing sonar when you said fish finder, as FF is kinda generic term for any sonar.

But yes, most ice fisherman want to use a flasher as a graphing sonar creates a scrolling representation of the same thing, that works better when moving. For us, we see live action of what is below our hole with a flasher.

The exception are the guys that pony up for some sort of live imaging, which I hope to do come January 1. Live imaging from Lowrance, hummingbird and garmin are taking over. But at a very steep entry point.

For example, Garmin Livescope can be setup on one end of our 16' house and show every bait in the water, and activity live around them, rather than a scrolling display of what a flasher may be showing. Until I pony up the cash, we will stick with flashers and the cam.

I have (3) of the Vexilar FL8se models as they are cheap and do the job as well as we can run 3-4 in the house with minimal cross talk. Some of the guys have more expensive models, but these are working.

Wait till we get livescope deployed, then we will have some pics to show!

Just spent the last 8 days in North Providence RI cleaning out my father in laws house. He is in rehab and after he is released he is finally coming to live with us in NC. (Been bugging him since we moved here) he had a bad fall and finally admitted he needs to be with us. So i called in all my favors to all me friends up there. Cleaned out the house into a 30 yard dumpster, gave away all the nice Ethan Allen furniture and me and a close friend sorted out all the important valuables and sentimental items.
Jeannine couldn't come because the house was in poor shape. Heat wasn't working so i had to fix that first. The furnace sprung a leak and soaked a zone board

There was water everywhere in the basement.
It was a big job
But in one week got a friend to buy it for only 125k cash(needs a complete gut but will be worth 350k when done)

On the plus side and most important my wife wont worry about him anymore.

But i scored 3 antique rifles, flintlock pistol, antique sawedoff double barrel shotgun, and a mini revolver.
These 2 early 50s mercury racing outboards

And my prize which i have been waiting for for years.
Gill bought this new in 73
Its a 73 kawasaki h2 its a 750 2 stroke

So its been a long tough week but worth it.
I am back in nc but heading back in a few days maybe a week to get him from rehab and bring him here.
