Still hard water season here in MN. Spent Friday afternoon with my folks out in the fish house

The guys in my ice fishing forums love first ice videos. Amazing how fast we are locking up with ice. We may be fishing in no time!
Global warming…

Global warming…
Not around here. We are within days of the last 10 years as far as frozen lakes and amount of snow.

Over 500 miles on sleds so far and my fish house is sitting on over 16" of good ice. It is warmer this week since our forecast is saying closet o 30 degrees. But that will give way to the nice storms coming over the next 10 days.

Here was our Saturday afternoon cruise around the property.

A few photo’s of my local lake.. in my experience, this lake doesn’t freeze over until late January or February, its been frozen over since early December.. in this photo if you look on the left next to the boat docks you can see a portable fish house and an ATV.

That far shore is a place where I’ve caught a few Lake Trout… not sure how thick the ice Is.

Just spent the last 8 days in North Providence RI cleaning out my father in laws house. He is in rehab and after he is released he is finally coming to live with us in NC. (Been bugging him since we moved here) he had a bad fall and finally admitted he needs to be with us. So i called in all my favors to all me friends up there. Cleaned out the house into a 30 yard dumpster, gave away all the nice Ethan Allen furniture and me and a close friend sorted out all the important valuables and sentimental items.
Jeannine couldn't come because the house was in poor shape. Heat wasn't working so i had to fix that first. The furnace sprung a leak and soaked a zone board

There was water everywhere in the basement.
It was a big job
But in one week got a friend to buy it for only 125k cash(needs a complete gut but will be worth 350k when done)

On the plus side and most important my wife wont worry about him anymore.

But i scored 3 antique rifles, flintlock pistol, antique sawedoff double barrel shotgun, and a mini revolver.
These 2 early 50s mercury racing outboards

Tons of old camera equipment (valuable but not sure how much)

And my prize which i have been waiting for for years.
Gill bought this new in 73
Its a 73 kawasaki h2 its a 750 2 stroke

So its been a long tough week but worth it.
I am back in nc but heading back in a few days maybe a week to get him from rehab and bring him here.

Good on you for getting up there and taking care of him! Highly commendable!

That Kawi… those things are, well, a bit of a handful to put it mildly.. they are rockets for sure, incredible acceleration!

Yup it was a ton of work but worth it. He is here and doing very well in NC. Every day he is doing better.
The H2 will be a project i will start next year. I will restore it for the occasional ride. But it will always be in my stable of bikes.
Need to get another acre from my neighbor to build my barn

Would like to take the boat out this weekend, supposed to be mid 80s and sunny, but this is going on.... I can only imagine the traffic on the water, booze flowing like water, and police boats everywhere.

when we have Wetstock down here its not uncommon for the MAN to hang out as well..

Ahh walleye season in MN has come to an end. It was a sad day yesterday. We got 4-6" of new snow, and I had to call in a favor from a buddy with tracks on his SXS. My machine could get out and back, but not tow my skidhouse.

When drilling holes Saturday night, my auger was bottoming out just as I punched through. We have tons of ice! But we also had bluebird skies from 7am to after 6pm! One more month of sled season.

In case anyone wanted to cry about how much snow we have. Here is a photo my sister texted me from tahoe. I do believe they are over 600" of snow this season. This photo was taken from the second floor of their house. And yes, that is a full sized chevy tahoe in here driveway!!

That’s unreal!
Ps… no Fu*%ing thank you lol ?

Right? She is in the ski industry, and there is such a thing as too much snow. Customers cannot get to them half the time.

Can you imagine, they have to blow the snow nearly straight up, while someone pulls the snow away from the edge on top. They used to blow an inside perimeter around their yard fence to keep the dog in. They gave up 300" ago.

I did a “snowboard” trip to Tahoe for my bachelor party a few years ago and we were snowed out almost the whole trip. Got half a day in on the mountain before they closed.
I had never heard of such a thing before anywhere.

When I was a lift op in Colorado, we would only be on avalanche hold. In the case of the resorts in Tahoe, they will be closed for Wind hold more than anything. They have seen gusts over 100mph out at Sierra and in town at Heavenly. A gust like that can derail a chair lift.

April 2nd, 2023……..just when you start getting excited for boating season…..67EB0920-6A75-486B-BABB-17FAAB84470E.jpeg

Started dialing in the sprinklers and heard water running. Found an old fence post that split the sprinkler line. Re located and added another sprinkler head. Like a golf course now.0C29BCF7-CE43-47F8-9329-5D154D104B22.jpegE3DD4CB3-A38F-418C-9C35-109042F8F784.jpegB6D0F8CD-FD4B-4A52-A8EB-14A904370E73.jpegDE3538FB-3496-4D99-B2FE-40800E6CB5B8.jpeg

80 Miles of smiles yesterday on snowmobile. The season is closed for grant-in-aid trails (private property) and grooming. But the state forests are fair game. And yes, this state forest has street signs!

Our part of MN will get 9" of fresh snow over the next 48 hours. While closer to Fargo, they could see over a foot. My guess is talk of the Red River of the North flooding is eminent.

Saw a vid the other day…Tahoe now has over 700”, second highest year on record, parts of the sierras are at all time record levels.

Pretty good blizzard coming my way here in The Black Hills, supposed to get a max of 30” from 1800 hrs tonight through Wednesday at 1800 hrs. That storm could be coming your way @biffdotorg …. I hear that the two closest lakes to me still have 20” of ice on them.
