I know exactly what most of you are thinking after seeing my thread subject. Oh NO, here we go again ! This is a slight variation however. I have been working with Jerry at Green Hulk this afternoon. It is my understanding that the flame arrestors (ribbons) don't come out as easy on the MY18 and 19 boats ? I ask Jerry for advise on the parts I would need. Here is what he says is required to complete the project ? To me this looks like the 275 SVHO engines ? Can anyone confirm or deny that the aluminum billet rings still work on MY19 242 LSE ? This looks like a lot of work and very dangerous project IMHO !

You have two n/a 1.8 motors, not svho. Way easier to do.

Thanks @Pro Build ! Looks like we have exactly the same setup ? I assume you did it without having to remove the intake manifold from the engine compartment ? Just like previous years and the OE rubber rings goes around the Riva aluminum ring once the ribbon is removed ??

I had a follow up email from Jerry / GreenHulk this morning confirming that the pdf instructions he sent me yesterday only applies to the MY19 and newer SVHO engines. Guess he didn't realize our 242s are naturally aspirated ? I was much relieved that a hole saw would not be required on my intake manifold but maybe the attachment will be helpful to those that have or are considering ribbon delete on the 275 boats ? I personally would not have done this on a boat still under warranty.

That is correct, it was easy and I did not damage the ribbon. To be honest, I did not feel, see, hear or notice a difference in any way. Could be because the ribbon was new and was not restricted . I can't verify this, but I visualize fogging these engines would leave some build up on the ribbon and over a period of years could create some restrictions.

It looks like in the parts explosion picture that the ribbon is not removable. 2018 and up is a different intake. I would verify before proceeding.
The ribbon is molded into the intake and there is no rubber insert. So the aluminum sleeve wouldn't work. Because the rubber insulator is needed to install the sleeve

Some seem to have managed to delete the ribbon in 2019s, I think, @Michael-Nash and @grywlfbg ?
Completed my ribbon and snorkel delete just now. On my boat (2019 242X) I did not have to remove the air boxes. I was able to loosen the hose clamp on the engine side, and remove the front (air filter) half of the air box. I then took a flat blade screwdriver and used it to break the orange glue around as much of the snorkel as I could. Then I just grabbed it and with a couple wiggles it popped out. With the snorkel out of the way there was plenty of room to do the ribbon delete while leaving the back half of the air box connected.

@Neutron , the parts explosion is why I posed the question to start with. You are correct , they no longer show it as a unique part number. I take @Pro Build's reply to mean that he has done it and salvaged the ribbon, then reused the surrounding rubber piece with the new Riva sleeve ?

I did, and it was a simple procedure.

This is the one's I used from Amazon.
So you didn't have to use a hole saw to cut it out. Just pull it out with the rubber insulator and reuse the insulator with the sleeve. Like i did in my 16 my

I guess greenhulk just likes to sell stuff instead of truely helping people

Just unbolt and remove. Nothing that couldn't be put back if ever needed for resale.

He does like to sell stuff, lol. But I don;t think he is deliberately misleading. I think Yamaha is making some of this info opaque, and it is not an accident. I'm not blaming them, and not saying it is misleading of Yamaha either, they probably answer to a higher authority. On top of the changing intake manifold and ribbon sizes some of the new boats have the ribbon non-removable, hopefully it's just the new SVHO including in 275s. Not sure if ribbon delete really matters as much there anyhow.

I have 2019 NA 1.8. Plan to do Ribbon Delete prior to fogging. Based upon all that I read, the ribbon delete for the 2019 NA engine is fairly straight forward and same as always. If I am wrong let me know.

It seems the supercharged 2019 supercharged ribbon delete has become more difficult, but not my monkey.

Just to be clear , Jerry at GreenHulk was very helpful and went out of his way to assist me after hours on the weekend with my concerns. I never felt like he was trying to push something on me that was not required to do the job. I think (just like Swatski) that all this confusion is caused by Yamaha changing their on line parts illustrations starting with the 2018 and newer 1.8 NA engines. Based on @Pro Build, and others input I too am going to proceed with ribbon delete on my 2019 expecting it to be the same process as I did a few years back on my 2016 AR240.

What are the dangers of doing Ribbon Delete if any? Would insurance company be able to tell if there was a fire cause by this?

They could inspect the boat and if no flame arrestor is installed it could bounce the claim

Just to confirm, ribbon delete was smooth as silk for my 2019 242X (2 x 1.8L NA motors). Aquasport aluminum rings used. Followed the instructions in this thread: https://jetboaters.net/threads/1-8l-ribbon-delete-2017-212x.18393/ Although I did not remove the airboxes (@swatski quoted my post above).

I'm new here but I thought my motors were "HO" and that the supercharged motors were "SVHO". In that case, Jerry at Green Hulk is correct, he just sent the instructions for the wrong motor. The attachment clearly states SVHO and the pictures in the attachment do not look like my motors.

I have not read of anyone with a 1.8L NA/HO motor having any trouble doing the ribbon delete.

So I decided to do ribbon delete prior to fogging motors and ordered aquasport rings. Guess what. They don’t fit. Too small. Aqua sport does not answer phone and no response to email so far, so I put everything back together without the spacer. What do you think about that? I don’t see why spacer is needed At all other than potential issues with turbulence.
