It is hard to make out, is there a screw in there just covered over with sealant ?
yes the bolt is intact.. I filled the engine compartment with a few gallons of water and there is nothing leaking on that bolt.. The keel is a little wet and there is a bit of water around the plug.I touch the bottom of plug and my finger gets wet.. .Nothing dripping. Will wipe dry add a little more water and check in another hour..Maybe my plug is the culprit.. It seems to have a hard time lining up to screw it in from day one..

Very well could be the keel plug, which would be great and can be fixed.

You may have debris in there. I had the same problem with mine once I cleaned it all out it was easy to get the plug in Straight

That clamshell fix is a joke, I would be furious too. You would think Yamaha would fix this issue already with a longer necked OEM drain! For those that are interested, here is a video that thoroughly explains/shows (good camera work) where the water comes in, where it goes and a fix using the original drain.

I do agree with others on this thread that replacing the OEM drain with a longer necked aftermarket drain would be preferred.

Update.. I have cleaned out the engine compartment over time filling it several times to get out any debris and have lubed up the keel O ring plug and I'm still getting a small leak through the plug after adding a few gallons to the engine compartment. i hope this is why my bilge is going off every two -three hours..
I have ordered a new plug and hopefully that solves the issue..
Has anyone had success with teflon tape..?

I carry 2 extra plugs with me. One in the boat, one in the rig. So far I haven't noticed any water in the bilge, but I plan on testing it before the next time out

The threads are too coarse for it to be useful, and the O-ring is in the way as well. It'll be a bigger pain in the ass than it's worth. If yours is like mine, you SHOULD be able to pull the plug out. Do so, and inspect the O-ring. You may have nicked it or it's folded or some other such thing. Replace it if that's the case. While you have the plug out, run a steady stream of water into the bottom of your boat WHILE running a bottle brush or some other such thing into the hole to clear out the threads. Put the plug back in and test it out.

The keel plug is attached with a piece of plastic inside it's female end.. Is there a technique to get it in and out without breaking it?

Pull.

If you want, as you pull, use a screwdriver once the end starts to bend/curl to help it out

It is held on with what is basically a plastic "T". The little wings of the "T" is what keeps it in but they are flexible enough that you can pull it out to clean.
I bought a spare one that is a little different but it fits.

Look at that video I posted. It clearly shows the water is leaking betwee. The out and inner sections of the hulls. I don’t think Teflon tape would work. The OEM drain neck length is not long enough and let’s water access between the layers. Amazing to me Yamaha doesn’t fix this part design flaw.

Update.leak testing. . I just moved the boat to a better position with the stern downhill and put a few gallons into the engine compartment.. I found a leak.. My hull has a crack in it and its drooling water just where the black plate hits the hull. Unreal!!

@YamSport Wow man. Not sure what to say. So sorry all of this is happening to you. If we were close to each other I would be in the truck right now bringing a nice bottle and a case to drink to come cheer you up.

Maybe Christine ran it aground while they were water testing it.

Can you take a wider zoom picture so others know exactly where that is at whom own the same boat to see if they have the same issue? Could be a manufacturing defect.

I have spent hours and hours leak testing this new boat after timing the bilge turn on rate while letting sitting out for its first day. A week ago I sealed the anchor locker . Tonight i put in a brand new plug and was ready to go at it for a few hours.. I moved my boat so the stern was downhill
. . I have looked at this area 100 times over the past two weeks a thought it was messy black sealant. Testing in the dark with a flashlight is what did it or the crack expanded while sitting perfectly on the trailer. I was in shock at first. How can this be? Being told the dealer might not find it motivated me to find it first.. Here are the pictures.. There are bolts going from the plate to the hull. I wonder if they are the culprit for this crack..

Perhaps before on the trailer the upward pressure was compressing it and didn't make it noticeable as a crack. Going to need some glass work there for sure. I wonder if it is causing structural concern. You should be able to see it from the inside if you pop off the access cover and get a scope / Camera / phone down there. right below where the steering cable goes through. I was down there in mine when I replaced the steering cable, although of course you have a different boat.

Christine... too funny. I complained to my salesman at the dealer who happens to be a very nice man about my issues." Leak and missing parts".. I was so frustrated I was thinking this boat was a reject sent out to ruin my life. He said that Christine was the person testing the electronics. I can only hope that it is true. I don't think they water tested my boat. It arrived and they only sent pictures of it in a garage with the cover on it and it was picked up really quickly for delivery. The least they could do is delete themselves from the boat before sending it off though. I don't think I can put this boat back in the water with this crack. I have family coming over this weekend and well.. oh well.. they are going to be very upset.

Almost looks like the hull cracked from stress. Are there bolts mounting the plate there? Maybe they were over torqued at the factory? Sorry you are dealing with this
