I screwed up and accidently sent 24v into the system. I replaced the pdm, disconnected the rectifiers as well as the amp. When I went and turned the key on, the connext screen didn't light up. I removed the switch and the red and white wires look a bit charred and have 321 ohm from red to black. I'm pretty sure the switch is also toast. Is there an inline fuse on the wiring harness between the pdm and the switch? Any other ideas on things I can check?

I dug in more and found the 321 ohm reading to have been a red herring. I'm not getting voltage on the red wire to the switch. I jumped from the battery to the yellow wire in the harness and she's alive!

Can anyone tell me if the PDM feeds the red wire of the ignition switch or if it's just 12v from the common bus?

Have you tested all fuses on the boat but specifically the primary fuse?

I’ve tested the fuses next to the battery selector switch, and they are all fine. I looked under the helm and couldn’t find any there.

Check back wall engine bay. IIRC there is a primary 30amp, but I would check all of them on voltage not continuity.

I checked everywhere, I tested all of the fuses in the ECU boxes as well, no luck. I fear there's an inline fuse somewhere in the harness buried in the wall. Thanks so much for your help though, much appreciated!

Do you have a complete service manual? If so it has the wiring diagram that would show that

I sincerely doubt there is an in line fuse buried in the wiring loom.

What do you mean by PDM?

24 volts into a 12V system is not going to char the wires, nor is it enough to exceed the insulation value of the wires, it is enough voltage to pop diodes.

I’m curious how you managed to push 24 volts into your system, and did you hook up the batteries reverse polarity as well?

I unknowingly hooked up a battery backwards while having the battery switch that bridges the 2 together.

I replaced the PDM, all is working now with a jumper from 12v to the red wire in the switch.

I think I'll purchase Yamaha 252SE Boat 2021 Service Workshop Manual

What is the PDM you’re talking about ?

That battery switch is the emergency paralleling switch. Since it was connected to ground, that would have produced very high current flow, there must have been a lot of smoke?

The terminal on the battery melted, it wasn't a catastrophic explosion. Replacing the PDM and I did find 2 50amp fuses before the ECU that popped.

And the PDM you’re referring to is what? I have no idea what you’re referring to.

What is a PDM????????

I think I found it. 30amp fuse in the ECU fuse box, 1 on each motor, possibly just the starboard.

thanks for the help everyone and the suggestion of buying the repair manual, it's fantastic!

So for clarification it is not a PDM, it is a Switch Control, there is no such thing as a PDM, the part #23 at Boats . Net and part #33 at partszilla

Previously you stated you had checked all of the fuses.. that 30A fuse should have been in the same box as the 50A fuse you found blown correct?

No, for clarification it is a power distribution module, it literally says Power Distribution Module on it

Page 14 of the repair manual lists this as an acronym

And here's the actual unit
