Made it 4 years of ownership before I had to use my Towboat membership. Sucked up a can on Father’s Day at Lake Wallenpaupack here in PA. Just pulled the pump myself for the 1st time to remove it.

I saw a flash of the can at the last second while pulling a tube, couldn’t react fast enough.

Oh no, Doug was telling us this happened on Sunday. We took in a big stick and had the same happen. Thankfully for me it was just before our slip at Ironwood we were able to get pulled in.

Ouch, not only was it jammed in, but damn that's super sharp to pull out through the cleanouts... good think you saw it beforehand or you may have had to break out the first aid kit.

Also, it drives my wife nuts, but this is why if we see garbage in the river, we stop and pick it up. Pump karma...

Exactly, I keep a "spare garbage can" on board just for other peoples debris.

Quick story - we stopped late last year to pick up a small floating Styrofoam container, assuming it was probably bait that fell out of some fisherman's boat. My wife snags it and says "it's full of something so I'm going to empty it out before we throw it in the garbage."

She pops the lid and the smell of rotting worms that had been floating in the water and sun hits her and all of us like a sledgehammer - she starts gagging and everyone is losing their minds.

Luckily we were close to a river-side bar and grill, so I made the quick decision to pull a 180 and had her put it up on the dock for someone there to dispose of.

That was probably the nastiest smell I've ever been in contact with since the early 2000's when one of our beagles decided to bathe himself in a dead rabbit. It was so pungent that it seemed to "stick" in our noses for hours afterwards...

Yep thats the factory pump sealant! Sorry you lost time on the water due to garbage.

It amazes to no end that some people think it’s okay to throw garbage in the water…. The biggest offenders I’ve seen are alcohol drinkers hiding their empty alcoholic beverage containers at the bottom of the lake.

Edit; I’ve seen plenty of fisher peoples trash on the shores . @anmut

I too scoop up any trash in the water while I’m out, I do they same when on dry land, I always walk a couple hundred foot radius from my campsite and pick up the trash that the human garbage left for others to enjoy.

Sadly I know that smell all too well. We picked up worms for fishing at Walmart in Ticonderoga a few years ago as we were going to be camping on an island for a week on Lake George. Well, one of us forgot the worms in the trunk of the SUV, they baked for a week in the trunk, when we opened the doors the smell nearly knocked us all out. Needless to say we waited much longer than planned before packing and heading home.

I didn’t make it out without a couple sliced fingers before I realized what was actually down there. Confirmed once we got on the trailer. We’ve always turned around and picked up trash in the lake. It was a good lesson for the kiddos to show why we do it, and keep the waters clean.

Have never sucked up the cans but have had to tussle with a few industrial grade pieces of fishing net. Glad to see it all got better though.
