I saw that Garmin was running a sale, up to $100 off on some of their map downloads. I went ahead and bought the Vision + to add on top of the existing. Got a chance to play around with it today and it had some cool images for offshore. Some of the public and private numbers are off and you can see it with these first two examples. The first is a sunken ship south of the public number and the second a round reef feature that is well west of the public number.

Some of the numbers if found dead on though, like the last two.

Still, there’s a bunch of area with limited coverage, but I’m enjoying playing with this and making plans. It also has some areas with some nice ridges. Planning on creating some routes and have the trolling motor follow that contour while we deep drop.

Not sure how well this translates to lakes though.

Also, I did have installed a new trolling motor and the 106sv Uktra 2 as mentioned. I did the work on my last boat, but didn’t have the time or want to this time around. Had TMS in Jax do the work and they did a great job, even came up with the median on the panel with the ability to redesign easily if I decide to add another MFD.

I Took the factory mount with me in case they wanted to use it, but it was eliminated as an option with severe prejudice and they made their own mount and put on a quick release bracket. Calibrating it and playing with it by using the MFD was fun and easy.

Looks like you moved your connext screen over and mounted your Garmin where it was ?

I was wondering what Vision + got me. I have not kept my sub for my Navionics maps up after the first year. I have full inland maps, and felt they didn't change much so a subscription was not warranted.

Vision + seems cool for those offshore though.

Yes, and moved the charger and compass. We were playing with figuring out out to install the charger lower in animation of the new screen, but we decided just to hold off and wait until or when that materializes. They also thought I should delete the compass, but given how sloppy these things are at slow speeds and the lack of visual references offshore, the compass helps. Others thought the heading in the GPS would suffice, but I find that reacts too slowly.

Right on!
In regards to the compass, most airliners these days have glass cockpits, meaning MFD screens for just about everything.. but, there is still a set of analogue instruments, altimeter, VSI vertical speed indicator, turn coordinator, air speed and a compass… a compass will always work, and a paper chart doesn’t need batteries.

You dash looks great well done!

You nailed it with the flying thing. I’m a former professional pilot and worked on research while I was in university related to instrument placement and decrease in performance the further away you had to look. Directly led to my placement choices. I seriously considered putting this on a Ram mount above the dash for sightline purposes, but I think this one is a little big for that and I’m really happy with how it turned out.

The mechs also thought the connext should be down and out of the way, but it’s the only source of tach in this boat since there are no traditional gauges. However, residue from my flying days, I hate it when the engines are out of sync , whether I’m driving or if I’m on someone else’s boat. Just a quirk. So I wanted it more visible to help with control. If it was a single engine, I might not care as much.

WRT modern airplanes, if the digital ever goes down the placement of the analog instruments would be a nightmare. Stuck in any place apart from each other, what a mess.
