I have a Humminbird Solix 10” G2 mfd and my software is up to date. I’ve been having some trouble with the unit in that sometimes on the chart it will zoom out to a .5 mile range, I’d zoom it back in with the rotary knob and it was notchy then as soon as I’d stop it would zoom back out. Over 15-20 mins it would slowly, step by step zoom back in and then be okay for the rest of the day. On my recent trip to Lake Mohave, the touch screen became non responsive, I’d tap several times and nothing, after say 10-20 seconds while I was sitting there watching the screen all those tap commands would execute. That type of behavior reminds me of a PC computer that’s out of RAM ( if I’ve got that correct) memory and or the processor is loaded up and trying to catch up. I had talked with Humminbird tech support sometime ago and that person suggested I export all of my waypoints (I have a lot of waypoints), routes, tracks and settings to a micro SD card, then delete all waypoints, tracks etc off the unit and execute a factory reset. The tech said that it was possible that some of the way points could have become corrupted.
When I got home I did just that with the boat on the trailer, turned the sonar pinging off to keep the transducer from getting hot, the unit now seems a lot smoother in the zoom in and out on the chart and a bit quicker when changing screens. I did have to recreate some of my views, and the unit seemed faster as I created and saved the new views.
All that to say, as with most computers, even with the Linux based Humminbird, an occasional factory reset may be necessary to keep things running their best, and in the case of the OP, the factory reset would eliminate any unwanted tracks. That process may sound difficult but it’s not, the user interface on the Humminbird is pretty straightforward. Note, on my Solix it will only work with a micro SD card up to 32GB, no larger.
My plan going forward will be to first use the unit for several outings with none of my inputted waypoints, tracks etc and see if that solves all of my issues, if it does step two will be to import my I Tracks / trolling routes from the micro SD card that I set up for trolling that I use my Ripe Tide Ulterra to follow over know good fishing spots and see if the Solix continues to perform without issue for several outings. If that works out okay I’ll import all of my way points and see what happens, if things start acting wonky again I’ll know it’s some corrupted waypoints and I can repeat the process up to importing the saved tracks and permanently delete my saved waypoints, unless the I Tracks is and or the issue then they’ll get deleted as well. If none of that works then it will be time for a new Apex.
Edit; If I remember correctly, I think the Humminbird tech said it was possible to load the corrupted way points onto a PC then run a program that would go through the waypoints to find the corrupted waypoints. I’m also wondering if having the corrupted data on the unit is contributing to the heat the unit generates, not unlike a smart phone that has apps that are at war with each other.
